Smart Repair For Cars

  1. Evening all, has anyone had a bonnet Smart repaired ? I've had wings, bumpers etc but not a bonnet and figured it may prove difficult due to no joining line and it being a large area. I picked up a stone chip big enough to dent the panel, about 4 inches from the front edge, so will I need whole bonnet repainting? So, anyone with experience of just a local fill and paint on something as large as a bonnet ? Thanks in advance

  2. We spot repair them all the time, but it's dependent on the colour and where on the panel as to what you can do.

Solid or dark colours should be ok anywhere on the panel.
Some lighter metallics, you may be OK with but better if you have an edge to go to.
If it's silver, in the middle of a panel, it's going to be difficult. You may get away with a "tape up", which it just that, masking around the area to be painted and applying the base, then removing the masking and spraying a spot of clearcoat over the repair, then a larger area painted with fade out thinner.

  3. Where are you based @Robarano . It's on a night blue metallic bonnet from a 66 plate golf gti, about 4-5 inches back from leading edge and approx 10 inches from centre . I can upload pic if needed, I had a go with touch up pen noticed the slight dent once polished up.

  4. Ahh, just seen. Newcastle eh, that's a bit far from Southampton :)

  5. With that colour, I wouldn't imagine you'll have to have the full bonnet painted. The repair should be quite simple.
