  1. Sorry Derek. Having trouble working out this tab. Is it between two more substantial pieces of vertical plastic. Push it inwards? Does the whole thing rotate or just a small part of it?
     
  2. litle tab in the center of clip,push in, rotate leaver and pull gently off at same time
     
  3. Sorry if I'm being dim. Is this tab visible in the pic?
    Do you call the centre the pivot point of the semi circular piece that looks as though it should rotate. Does the whole semi circular piece rotate, is that what you're calling a lever?
    It doesn't look as though it would rotate anti clockwise if so...

  4. not visible in pick but at the bottom in the middle of the leaver there's a litle tab that stops it rotating. push in and rotate the whole lever in towards the middle of the ecu

  6. depending on what way the ecu is facing, plugs at bottom then yes. bit stressful the first time i know. looks expensive, is expensive how hard to pull and push? it will be fine, just push in the safety stop and rotate lever towards the other plug

  7. Thanks Fin. Underneath and round to the left. The lever assembly thingy doesn't seem to rotate very far though. It goes a few degrees and the bit that butts up to the tab then fouls the post that holds the screw for the heat shield. The curved section at the top looks as though it should rotate a fair bit further but it really doesn't want to.

  8. Ok, managed to lever it past the plastic post with a large screwdriver. What a nightmare the 999 battery box is and the great big thick American cables don't exactly help...
    All I have to do now is identify pin 38 :/ there so many and they are tiny!
     
  9. Have managed finally to get in there and get the connectors out. It turned out to be the left one, no wonder I was confused about clockwise and anti-clockwise. Anyway, I'm not finding continuity but am I doing it right?
    I'm going off the connector, not the ecu and is it definitely the corner pin I want? If so, which corner in relation to the cable?
    Yes I have tried all four.
    Also, will a multimeter probe make contact with the connector pins/sockets or wil I need to stick a paper clip or something in there to make contact with?
     
  10. use a paper clip. get yer specs on, sure the plug is numbered inside.

  13. hang on. i think the numbers might be on the inside of the ecu connection. probably impossible to see.
    cant imagine there will be that many pins in use on a bike loom. just connect yer meter to the coil end and quickly prob the ecu plug. one should have continuity with the trigger wire
     
  14. It is the black connector you should be looking at. Pins 10 and 38 are the outside corners that would lie towards the outer edge of the ECU. Like Fin says connect one probe of your meter on the grey/blue wire of the horiz coil and use a paper clip to probe the ECU socket terminals. Try both outer terminals. If no continuity swap your leads to the grey/green of the vert coil and try again. Since the vert coil is firing it must have continuity to the ECU, which should be evident. If nothing to the grey/blue then the wire is broken internally.

    Be aware, from Saturday I'm on holiday for a fortnight. :D

    The good news, I think, is that I do have continuity. I have put an offer in on an ecu recommended by Chrisw and he is going to flash it for me to suit my 999 and all with an offer I can't refuse :)
