A lot of concern on the Forum regarding high mileage and concerns with it.. My interiptation on this for what it's worth... My baby has some serious mileage on her... I get a few splutters and the odd whine at times from her but all things considered she ain't doing bad for her age really.. She also used to smoke a little too but I've managed to stop that now.. She's worth keeping for a few years yet before I need to find a younger model.. Mind you, she does make a wonderful spicy sausage roll!... Luv you Mrs N really xxx now where's your purse?...
My 848 mileage is getting up now. I took the view once it got to about 5 years old that Duke dealers offered naff all to trade it in, it owes me nothing and I love riding it. I think you either have to trade up whilst young enough or low enough miles to not frighten dealers/punters or keep it and just ride it and not worry about it. There is an Aus on one of the other forums with a 60k 1098. Home serviced and in a recent strip down all he has done is replaced the rings and mains, just because it was prudent whilst checking it over. I'll be well happy if it get 2/3 of that out my bike. Not 100% sure why people are scared of high mileage Dukes. My other bike is an Aprilia rsv with 45k which is quite a normal used mileage for them. No one baulks at buying them with that mileage either.
my 1098 has just clocked 27k Never thought about changing it. The new sports bikes are very nice but i cant be bothered with all the electronics happy to be a luddite. I went to Italia in Lincoln a month or so ago and they had a couple of 916 style bikes in I got more of a thrill looking at them which made me pull my Finger out finish mine and get it on the road.
I'm afraid none of the new bikes from any of the manufacturers excite me, call me old school but they just look so plasticky ( is that an actual word?) the only exception maybe is that Norton race replica in a chrome finish..that does look stunning..
My 1198 is now on 28k. We have a love/hate affair in that i ride it and absolutely love it, the weight, the speed, the looks. It pops and farts beautifully on the slow down. I hate it that when i'm not on it i'm never 100% that it is going to start. That's more my paranoia though really as it always does.
Know what you mean I own several Ducatis the newest being a 3 month old Multistrada always a surprise when it starts The Blackbird i would be amazed if it didn't start Love Ducatis been owning then since the 1970
Do you have a cable kit and AGM or lithium? If yes, clean up your commutator. If not, why not? All such problems with my 999 are now completely banished
Yes, cable kit. AGM ( i think). Don't know what a commutator is! I know now. Where is it and what do i clean it with? Thanks
38,000m on my 999. A few little gremlins but no big problems. Just had shims, belts and injection set up by Glen at MotoV and its running better than ever.
