1200 DVT Bike Won't Switch On

  1. 1200 DVT owned for a month bought 18 months old from Ducati Leeds. Ok, so I am finding a few problems, it's booked in for a second time for warranty work next week, heated grip not working, screen bracket come away, wonky upper fairing and now another issue. It wouldn't switch on last night. I tried holding the fob close to receiver, then tried red key next to receiver, nothing. No battery low warning either. It switched on using pin code. Then half an hour later working again with fob. I remember a mate had this issue 6 years ago on his new Diavel. It's going back to Ducati dealer on Thurday so another issue to add to list. Any ideas?

  2. Replace the fob battery, the red key is for opening up locks only. Or using it as a template for new key on a fob to be cut. It won't trigger the antenna system.

  3. When I bought the bike I was told the read key did have a chip in it and when held next to the receiver allowed the bike to be switched on just like the fob.

  4. Had a similar issue with a Diavel and the second replacement fob battery cured it. My understanding is that the red key, whilst a passive device, should allow you to start the bike. Andy

  5. I had a bit of sweary attack when my then 3 weeks new MTS wouldn't start. Turned out my phone that was in the same pocket as my key was the problem. Possibly the NFC on the phone?

  6. Sorry GZBZ but your wrong, it will and has done with me in the past. But you must hold it above the antenna, which is in a different place on the Twinspark to the DVT.

  7. Ok, so neither key will allow it to switch on. It must be an issue with the bike. I can start with PIN number but it wont allow me to activate steering lock. It doesn't inspire confidence for my upcoming trip to Spain.

  8. May be a silly question Andy, but are you placing the red key in the right place, and have you changed the battery in the remote key. I think there has been mention on here about keyless units being faulty.
Starting with the pin, whilst handy, is a PITA every time you want to start the damn thing, and I wouldn't rely on the steering lock as my only security if I was you though anyway.

  9. Had a similar issue with my DVT earlier this year, neither key would work but OK using the pin, not easy to access with the steering lock on. Ended up getting an upgraded key under warranty, this has a reset button in it, which needs to be held down for 1 minute, use your thumb nail to push it fully in, if your bike has the standard key remove the battery for 1 minute then replace, this does the same job as the reset button apparently. Worked for me, so worth a try, good luck.

  10. I stand corrected

  11. I am placing the red key at the right hand side
I did remove the battery for a minute or so before it started working again so probably the same issue as yours. I will add this to my list for when I take it to Ducati on Thursday.

  12. I had a similar problem a few months ago and had to start the bike using the PIN. It turned out that where I had parked (outside a KTM dealership, as it happens) is known to do strange things to keyless systems - once moved away from the KTM frontage the key functioned normally.
