...a bird! Seems female equality is still ahead of racial equality Still be shit tho unless they change the writer
Nightmare. The current doctors assistant character is female Black and lesbian, the Doctor is now female, what next, A rainbow coloured tardis. Trust the BBC to carry on with tick boxing politics.
The only issue I have with all that is that they put themselves in, say, 1820's London and no one bats an eyelid as a onlder white fella with a younger black woman. Not sure if eradicating real fact from these things is good, why should it be an issue? Or bad - waters down 'the struggle' some groups have been (and still are) going through. Writing is terrible too. Worst last two series ever.
For me I just see it as a complete waste of money, it's been shit for ages and when you're kids start ignoring it then it's lost.
The BBC isn't the only broadcaster that willfully includes anachronisms in story lines in the name of equality/diversity/stupidity. All of the period pieces, historical dramas and such include incomprehensible racial and gender diversity. Of course, they will have to go some to catch up with Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, and its multi-cultural Caribbean pirate crews. Really wacky stuff.
He's a thousand year old alien with two hearts that travels through time and space and your interpretation of attitudes prevalent in Victorian society is what you find difficult to accept? OK. Makes sense.
It's not the colour, sexuality or sex that is the problem, it's the fact any of these have been introduced into a character where it was not an issue before. It is after all an entertainment programme so why tamper with it? It started going downhill since McCoy and then started going all luvvie bbc luvvie from matt smith The whole idea of kids/teens entertainment is to be entertaining and not be a political subliminal gerrymandering Somethings work for 54 years and should not be messed with, I agree the writers are shocking. This is what happens when the tail wags the dog. Look at the latest beauty and the beast where one of the main characters friends was gay, I have absolutely no issue with gays but the fact it flopped massively as a film, is on dvd already and will be in the aldi/poundland bin within months should tell the financial backers something. Stop trying to sexually politicise childrens' and young adults lives.
Let's hope that the writing and production is better than the last few years, wish her all the luck either way. I'm not fussed about the choice of casting a woman at all, frankly I'm amazed it's taken this long. I just think it's been poorly produced, poorly scripted, wooden acted and been dying a slow painful death. That's the BBC fault, not hers
Agree it's not her fault, she needs to pay the bills but I suspect this will be the nail in the coffin for Doctor who. As a by the bye, the BBC announced they want to do a new Wonder Woman series and have asked if Caitlyn Jenner can do it
