Had Arai, Shoei and Shark. Shark was seriously not in the same ball park as the big two for quality and finish. Real ball ache for pinlock (which never sealed properly on the visor) and paint finish chipped easily, liner loose within shell. Would never buy another. IMO go Shoei 1st Arai 2nd. obviously whichever one MUST fit properly. There is some difference from helmet design to helmet design even from the same manufacturer, so dont discount a make on the basis of trying just one helmet.
I picked up an EXO-2000 Air Track for a song and it's the flagship model of Scorpion. It came with an extra tinted visor and a pin lock fog shield thingie... Good VFM methinks.
No mention of bike type and riding position. Surely an upright position and a prone position are likely to need different helmets. I've had trouble with neck ache from holding my head level on my 999. A carbon helmet didn't cure it. Taking the foam padding out of my jacket collar did though. The helmet was being pushed up at the back by it - no wonder my neck ached. It probably wouldn't have been a problem on a Monster or Multi.
Only had Ariai's before. I've bought the IOM TT 2016 Arai, worn once and fecking horrible, https://www.iomtt.com/News/2016/02/09/Arai-2016-RX-7V-Isle-of-Man-TT-Ltd-edition.aspx So tried Shoei NXR far better for noise, lighter too so bought 2 Had a Shark Tom Sykes rep fell to pieces in 400 miles, interior sun visir broke top air spoiler fell off and shark decals peeled off, took it to NEC last year to show Shark stand how poor it was, gave me his card said take it back to wherever I purchased and ring him from there, I got a new Shark Carbon Spartan in exchange from Bransons, which the Mrs now uses and the self seal visor flys open when you hit warp speed on the ZZR !!!!
Love my new Bell Race Star, Great vision (don't have to bend my neck as much on my Pani), light, and quiet. But what really sold it to me was the multiple liners in different materials, which act like a crumple zone in a car and decelerate the brain, minimising the impact with the skull. Seems Bell has learned how to make a helmet do this through their association with Freestyle MX.
Never tried a Bell But just gone for my second Schuberth seduced again by the quality and quiet. Just hoping it does not mist up like my first one. Got a pin lock but if you wear glasses they still mist up
