  1. Have you got loads and loads of 'windows' 'open' on Safari?? If you have it might be worth deleting some to see if it helps.

  2. Yes, have been reading all about the restrictions and current version is the latest available. I have a suspision
Only 1 window at any one time due to internet paranoia. I've looked at the simple and obvious fixes which is why the request for help. Fast coming to the conclusion the fecking thing is destined for the WEEE bin. Andy

  3. I'm talking about the display that comes up if you tap on the squares on the top right with Safari open and swipe down. You get loads of cascading web pages.

  4. No, no cascading pages. As previously stated, I suffer from internet paranoia, all pages shut down after use, all cookies cleared before closing browser, only 1 application open at any time, never leave the iPad or desktop PC in sleep mode or standby if not likely to be used for an hour. Real love hate relationship, don't want to live with it, have no life without it ! Andy

  5. Wow, you do all that and still have a problem...

Ours is just fine without taking any of that care

  6. You'll need iTunes and a pc / mac

Definitely backup to the computer, it'll make the process of doing a full factory reset easier as the cable + phone /ipad will already be connected to the computer from entering the DFU mode and therefore it'll automatically ask if you'd like to use the backup just made.

if not it'll at least give you the option of the backup by time /date so you pick the one just been done as that'll have all current contacts etc

There's plenty of YouTube videos and write ups, but this one might give a decent overview, it's the same principle for the ipad by the way.

In essence if all you've ever done is updated automatically over the air then eventually the hardware and possibly firmware gets a bit out of sorts and bloated.

Imagine doing this as a fresh start. It's a proper good wipe clean of the phone / ipad and when the ipsw file (ios operating system) reinstalls it'll be about as clean and organised as it can be.

You then use the backup you made to get your contacts etc back on.

Then the next few hours or day the file system will sort itself out properly. Hopefully speeding things up and making things work that little bit better.

After a few days it might also be worth downloading this app

This is a really good and yet basic app for cleaning clutter from you iPhone and ipad.

After apps and app updates have been downloaded and installed they leave lots of useless files on your phone, imagine this app as being like the old windows defragment tool.

On the new iOS make sure you tick this selection (APFS)

That's apples new file manager system and even though it'll take ages scanning it's worth running a few times.

You'll be amazed what space you can free up on an iPhone

  7. Why are you paranoid @Android853sp about internet usage??

Are you on mobile internet like a 3g dongle with only 15gb allowance per month?? ...I'm personally using two three home-fi units that allow 40gb per unit per month. I got both contracts at £20 per month which is amazing considering I was paying £16 for each 15gb dongle. And the other good thing is that the sim's can be popped into a dongle for proper mobile internet as well.

  8. @damodici

That's a fantastic explanation, many thanks for taking the time to do this, very much appreciated, I actually understand it as well!
My iphone5 and ipad air2 both appear to be working fine atm, but great to know I can do the back up sometime in the future using your instructions.

  9. iPad is not and never will be sim enabled, only ever used on trusted LAN. Long story not for here but had a very near miss that I have no intention of Putting myself at risk again. I delete any e-mail not from a known sender without opening and 'shred' anything with an attachment or redirect link. I no longer use several international couriers just because of the bulk of scam e-mails claiming delivery of items iminent. As I said earlier, I don't want to live with the internet but sadly I don't have a life without it as most aspects of life now require internet access. Oh yes, I don't do banking apps either and yes I shred credit card receipts, junk mail and anything with my name and a reference number on it which includes the bags my medication comes in. Other than that I'm pretty normal . Andy
