You're never too old to learn...

When I turned 40 I decided I was finally “mature enough” to own and ride a motorcycle. I know myself all to well and realized when I was in my twenties that if I had a motorcycle i would be that guy who did 200km/h into a tree, so didn’t get one, even though I though they looked great.

When I was 37, my wife bought Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman’s book “Long way Round”. I read it and loved no only thew book, but the idea of travelling to places on and off road, an my love for “Adventure Touring” was born.

Starting out knowing nothing whatsoever about bikes, I started researching models and found that the bikes Ewan and Charley rode in LWR were BMW R1150GS’s, which cost about $25 up here in Canada. I looked for a less expensive alternative, thinking if I don;t like it and decide to sell it, I didn’t want to lose a bundle (or end up divorced!). I ended up finding the ideal bike for me - a 1000cc Suzuki VStrom.

This year (2011) I bought a new Ducati Multistrada 1200 S Touring and am very excited about getting out on the road and enjoying the new Ducati!
