Dear all, I'll probably go away for 2 weeks over Xmas, and I will have to leave my Ducati in the residential car park where I live. That means that I probably won't have mains to plug any battery tender/optimiser into. Is there any "portable" (as in that doesn't need mains) solution you might recommend? I have an alarm and a tracker fitted to the bike and I have the feeling they'll drain the battery over the 2 weeks I'll be away. Thanks as always!! Stef
If the battery is in good condition and fully charged to start with it will handle a two week lay-up. I don't use an optimiser and my batteries get left longer than two weeks between charging over winter.
are you sure you will still have a bike after 2 weeks away? Ain't got a mates place you could leave it at?
Can't you put the tracker into a mode that uses least possible power? You can buy solar powered chargers from eBay/Amazon.
I think the tracker "auto-adjusts" according to how much voltage there is in the battery (and also sends me a text saying when/if my battery voltage is getting too low). I also should have mentioned it's an underground carpark, so it's very unlikely the sun will get to it haha! Thank you though!
Stef you must know someone with a drive or a backyard perhaps even a garage with space for your bike? You could leave it at mine, but I am far from London!
That's so nice of you! Why don't you move closer then? HAHA! Would you consider something like this? https://www.mefstorage.co.uk/
I would not touch them with my bike. It all reads very nice and fluffy till you read the bit where it says "We keep all bikes in running condition, warming them up to operating temperature each month. ". Worst thing that you could do is start the bike and let it warm up on tickover. Do they mean the operating temperature of the oil, or just the water temperature gauge?
Yeah, I see what you mean. But might be better than leaving it "unattended", with the risk of the battery going flat, and the usual stuff... no?
Welcome to leave it in my wooden garage (not a shed) for a couple of weeks. I'm just north of Watford.
No they say it is on a battery tender so why would they want to cause all the wear associated with starting the bike?
As chiz says, 2 weeks in a car park in London, I'd be more interested in good insurance than a battery charger
This is absolutely the nicest thing I've ever seen! But I don't want to cause you any trouble, just in case anything goes wrong (thinking about worst case scenarios...)
Maybe they refer by default to "very long" term storage, whereas mine would be just for a couple of weeks roughly (mine is just a guess), but I do see your point
You guys are safe! With the stupid hours I work, if I move further than 10 miles from my workplace I'm screwed
