Hi team I use the Pani 1199S for trackday use and have been using Pirelli SC's (sc1/sc2) for years but am considering trying the Bridgstome V01 slicks or even the Pirelli Superbike Slicks 200/60 rear The manual states for the race mode TC to work properly the size must be 200/55 rear The bridgstones are slightly differnet sizes to the SC's and wonder if they will affect the Traction Control or geometry 200/655 bridgstone v02 medium 120/600 17R bridgstone v02 soft/medium Also the Pirelli slicks are 60 profile not teh 55 profile which make the Dia/Circum bigger Is anybody using either of them on track and any issues with the TC etc ??
Not quite what you asked but regarding the t/c on my 959 I went on track with a 180/55 sc2 from the OE 180/60 and experienced no traction issues albeit I was on around level 4 setting
No problems in a couple years of use. TC setting 1 is setup for Pirelli Superbike slicks anyhow, but I've used Bridgestones, and now use Dunlop KR exclusively and never had an issue.
Yeh but what size.... "TC setting 1 is setup for Pirelli Superbike slicks anyhow" - Pirelli dont do a 200/55 slick only SC's (sc1/2/3)
The TC is set up for a certain amount of wheelspin for the tyre type and setting one is for slicks and track/race conditions where you want the spin to help you get around corners on the power. No one I know has ever noticed the difference using other brands with slightly different sizes. The system isn’t accurate enough for that to be a problem from what I can feel. They added calibration in the 1299 but I’m pretty sure the accuracy of the system did not improve until the recent Evo upgrades so maybe we need to think about it more with the very latest bikes doing slide control?
in the manual.. it mentions SUPERCORSA NOT SUPERBIKE So not the slicks... I have 200/60 Superbike slicks in at the moment Warning The DTC level 1 setting has been calibrated using the tyres with SC2 compound (Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SC2) that are not those originally supplied with your motorcycle. The use of this level with tyres having different characteristics may alter the operating characteristics of the system.
Sorry for incorrect quote I’m busy at work, but the gist is the same. I’ve removed that bit. (If you’re using setting one in particular) you will not see any issues with the different brands sizing as long as you use something similar. The only times I’ve had problems with any of the Pani range is switching TC off on the 1199R where the delivery is too fierce and tries to kill you.
LOL - yeh it seemed to be ok with the TC1 and 200/60 slick - so i'll stay with it for a while - push a bit harder and see if the TC helps me coming out corners better
The 1199 race loom that was supplied by Ducati, offered 3 different BBS (TC Control) units to cater for teams using different tyres - Pirelli, Dunlop & from memory I think Metzeler. So at race level at least, there was a definite difference that needed to be catered for by the factory. The 1199 likes an even front/rear distribution, it’s not keen to be on its nose. Using a 200/60 tyre instead of 200/55, slightly alters that dynamic. But whether you’d notice the above on a trackday is up for debate I guess.
