  1. Hi , after rebuilding my guzzi 1100 sport gearbox.
I reckon I might try doing my 30k desmo service,
I have read posts and seen ca videos on belt change.

a few questions to folk who have already done this ,
do we have any uk contacts for belts ,ngk plugs, gaskets and tensioner Fuji nuts.

What level of gasket replacement is required , valve cover , o rings

do 'we' have to visit dealer for service reset and s/w updates

still reading and thinking about the job..

    cheers

  2. Without sounding defeatist....I stripped my rsv4 to the top of the engine and then took it in....instead of the usual 500 quid ish bill it was 225...I've no problem with getting the cams out but, the actual calculations you only really get one shot at it!

  4. Different brand but same principal. I’m about to shoot out and get my valve shims now and rebuild it over the weekend. Maidstone Harley sell shims in smaller increments than KTM so I can do the job better. I’ve worked out:

    • £30 of valve shims
    • £30 oil
    • £30 oil and filter kit
    • £26 spark plugs
    • £22 on various tools I didn’t have
Total cost of valve service £138 plus my time.

I know KTM’s don’t have the belts, but i’ll check the cam chain too but it seems good so far.

  5. There is a very comprehensive “how to” on this forum.
It is a very satisfying job to do, NOT the nightmare (false news) put about by dealers! Start by buying yourself a tipex pen and the belts, take your time, count & measure everything twice then once more before marking (belts) For valves, measure & make notes - lots of notes! Then measure again! I have a local independent Ducati specialist who was very happy to do me a straight swap with valve shims (ask the question, you never know!) I bought the plugs, oil & filter from him.
You shouldn’t need to buy gaskets, just be careful with the ones you have, clean & apply a thin smear of high temp “magic” gasket.
Exige (above) for belts, the kit comes complete with new pulley nuts. Tension the belts with “gStrings” Android tuning App on your phone - You WILL get a blister on your thumb! Enjoy.
