St3 Wanted

Discussion in 'Wanted' started by TTTrevor, Feb 17, 2018.

  1. Hi Guys,
Three years ago I sold my 2005 ST3 and purchased my 2015 Monster 821 which is a lot lighter and very manoeuvrable. But after going through three winters without my fully Faired ST3, I now wish I hadn't, as I am not young and am feeling the cold.
I am looking for a WET clutch model post 2006, Low mileage under 20.000 Preferably RED and in very good condition. I am willing to pay a good price for condition and low mileage. I am also willing to part exchange my Monster 821 worth approximately £7000 with a cash adjustment if need be.

  2. Hi TTTrevor
I am toying with the idea of parting company with my ST3s which I have owned from new. Having climbed Kilimanjaro last year, adventure trekking is taking up my limited spare time and it's just standing in my garage (near Portsmouth) doing nothing.

  4. There is a very nice ST3 available in Fife, Scotland. It is a bit older but has a low mileage and lots of extras.

  5. I've a 2006 St3s which I'm considering selling.
ABS, Ohlins etc, no panniers but does have a Ventura rack.
It's done about 20,000 miles (I'll check the exact figure) and has been well looked after.
There are a few scuffs on the fairing and mirror courtesy of my garage door but it's still in pretty good condition.
I'm in Cornwall, drop me a PM if you're interested or want to know any specifics.

  6. Hi, If you are only at Portsmouth, I could be there in only 20 mins. I would love to come and see your ST3s and have a face to face chat at your convenience. My Mobile No is 07544273481 or if you prefer email is [email protected] Hope to here from you soon. TYrevor

  7. Hi Derek, I have viewed your ST3 on line, which is very nice but not what I am after. I really want a post 2006 which will have a wet clutch, preferable red and less that 20,000 miles. Yes I do ask a lot but yours is also as far from me as you could possibly get. Good luck with your sale. Trevor

  8. Hi Mike, Its the right colour and year also it has a wet clutch which is definitely a plus in my book, the mileage is good. I did want luggage but its not that important. Do you have any more close ups of both sides and of the engine and rear suspension and any other areas. Could the scuffs be polished out or would it need a paint job? You could contact me via email [email protected] Post code SO30 0JY Trevor

  9. All. Welcome along to the forum. Would an introduction in the newbie section not get a better response? :upyeah:

  10. Hi Wayne, you are right but I am of an age where I am experiencing difficulty in navigating your site. How do I register onto the Newbie site. Trevor.

  11. See below fellow Southampton lad.

  12. Hi Trevor, I'll try and take some up to date close up pictures on the weekend and email them over. I think that the scuffs need some touching in followed by a polish, but will let you decide from the pictures.

  13. Why so keen on a wet clutch??

  14. Hi Mike thats great, could you also include, Dry or Wet clutch, miles, has it a service history plus any other bits you think i should know. Thanks Trevor

  16. Hi Pete, I will be looking forward to viewing the pictures, but I really wanted a WET clutch model as my 205 ST3 had a dry clutch and I had to replace it three times over 9 years, and it still squealed and and slipped upon a quick get away. It was also very, very stiff to operate. Now ------ If you were selling your ST3s wet clutch I would be very interested. Many thanks for your contact, look forward to the pictures.

  17. Hiya Trevor,

I had clutch groan and squeal on my ST2, I stripped and replaced the steel plates and it was cured.

The ST3 clutch is very good being new friction plates, it does not groan or squeal and has the quiet clutch mod too so isn't as obnoxious as some.
I know my bike's not what your looking for but it is an honest ST3 ready to tour tomorrow if need be.

I did forget to mention the bike has rad/oil cooler guards and will come with the standard seat complete with the disc lock as well as the Sargent in the photos. I've also fitted a load of stainless nuts and bolts including the domed fairing centre section items.

My ST3S/abs could be for sale at the right money but being honest I'd be looking for around £4500 as it's loaded with carbon has DP airbox/exhausts and ECU and Helibars.

As a footnote I'd plumb for a dry clutch all the time as it keeps the engine oil cleaner.

If you're on Facebook I've set up a Ducati ST2/3/3S/4/& 4S UK Owners Group page.

  18. Hi Pete, thanks for the pictures of your superb ST3, I can see as a keen Ducati man that it has been very well cared for.

My ST3 was a 2005 Dry clutch with only 7000 on the clock when I bought it in 2007. The clutch was very heavy, had to fit an Oberon slave which took most of the bite out of it. Still heavy though. The clutch also squealed profusely when making a quick get away. I had a complete New clutch fitted including a new basket, OK for a 1000 miles then back to square one. The noise drove me mad, but I stuck with it for 9 years as the bike was bloody good in all other aspects. I was tempted out of it by the new Monster 821 Lovely bike as is the ST3 but NO wind protection at all. I now have a largish screen and hand protectors for the winter only mind. As I am now 71 I need the protection in the winter and wish I had never sold my ST3, no problem, buy another the wife said.
I must say that I love your ST3s, is that the Senna Grey edition, very nice!

I have to follow up a local ST3s that I viewed earlier this week which needed a little sorting by the current owner who is due to get back to me very soon. I will wait until he comes back to me.

In the mean time here are some pictures of my ST3 and Monster 821. P5120073.JPG DSC00047.JPG
