Insurance

  1. Who do you use for insurance? I've always used ebike insurance due to them always giving cheep quotes, however I have never had to use it so i'm not sure what they are like when it comes to paying out, etc.

  2. I used ebike for the first year, bennets for the second.

the most popular choices seem to be ducati insurance, Carole Nash. I think it comes down to a) the quote and b) what they include in the premium.

Theres loads of threads about it.

  3. I use Bennetts, as I put both bikes on one policy. For me Ducati insurance were very expensive - over three times the price of Bennetts (plus i'd still have to insure the cbr)

  4. Mce they were the most competitive

  5. I have used Footman James for the last few years as my 1994 900SS qualifies as a classic. Not had to use them for a claim though.

The only time I had to claim in 2004, bike written off, other party entirely to blame, the service from Carole Nash was excellent.

  6. Ducati Insurance as my Broker, and I must say theyre very reasonable and very good when / if it comes to a claim, as I am now finding out :)

  7. Well I've just got quotes online from ebike, bennetts, mce, and carol nash. The first 3 came back with identical quotes, and carol nash was £300 cheaper!. Dunno how that can be when I put all the same details in, but I know whos going to be insuring my bikes from now on.

    Thanks for the tips guys.

  8. Well insurance tip #2, do not accept a quote on-line because a couple of hours after you have filled out the on-line stuff and got a quote a nice chap from a call centrer in Manchester will phone you back and ask why you didn't take the on-line quote. He will then offer you a new quote £300 less that the original on-line quote!

Maybe I can afford that Belstaff jacket after all

  9. I found Bennetts to be very good price and cover for my Monster, fuss-free, easy to get in contact with them etc etc. I shall be sticking with them unless the renewal is something stupid come April.

  10. I just cancelled my renewal with Bennetts. Firstly it was on automatic renewal, which winds me up. Secondly they were £80 more than last year premium. When I rang up the woman was quite abrupt with me and didn't seem interested in trying to match any of the quotes I had.

  11. Ive got a multi bike policy with Carole Nash. Excellent service from what I can see. Not exactly cheap, but thats London for you :frown:

  12. Was this with Carole Nash? I am about to be taking out insurance and they were one of the cheapest but I've yet to follow up my online findings with phone calls.

  13. Yeah it was with Carole Nash, the actual policy is with Aviva. I went though the online quote process but didn't accept the quote as I was going to do it again the following day with different details (commuting, adding the wife, changing the exhaust just to see how these things would effect the cost.

However a hour or two later a chap phoned me to enquire why I hadn't accepted the online quote. I told him that Carol Nash had given me the best quote and will be happy to get a policy though them. After a conversation he said that as I have had bike insurance (with 0 claims) within the last 4 years he would be able to discount it by giving me 1 years no claims bonus (despite not holding bike insurance for the last 2 years).

I hope that makes some kind of sense, if they don't call you then I would defiantly call them. I discussed all kinds of factors that I thought might effect an insurance quote, only to find out that most don't actually have any impact.

For example adding the wife increased the cost by only £30 a year (despite her having 3 speeding tickets within the last 5 years) and changing the exhaust on the bike had no effect on the cost of insurance.

  14. Cheers, that's interesting stuff. I will definitely be calling them when it's time. Online seems ok for a guide but I still think it's best to do it over the phone.

Hoping I can sort a better deal as I'm looking at £700 FC with 10 years ncb and a clean licence. :(

  15. Sorry to resurrect this thread, but I made some good headway at the weekend regarding insurance.

Ducati Glasgow told me to make sure I called Ducati Insurance before going ahead with anything, so now I am within 30 days of the start date I figured I'd do that at the weekend. I now have my lowest quote from them at £430. The guy was great on the phone and took care during the call to have it all done properly.

I got prices of about £300 from MCE and BikeSure via Compare the Market, but when I went into these quotes and adjusted them to the right details they were up over the £450 mark. I tried to call Carole Nash after the tip above but couldn't get through, so I'll try them again one night this week just to be sure. All I need after that is my reg. number and I can get on with it. I'm expecting that Carole Nash will be more expensive than this quote from Ducati but I still want to try them as when I used them a few years ago they were very good.

Much better than the £700 barrel I was staring down a few weeks ago!

    Andy

  16. i usually use an online broker such confused.com which ive usually found offers the cheapest quotes..i rarely, if ever use the same company twice on the trot because ive found that they jack up the renewal price...one year i was insured with bennets for about £100, the following year it trebled, two years later bennets came back with a £100 again (via an online broker)..ducati, carole nash and a few others that are recommended on here have always been exhorbitant for me personally...in my experience, there isnt an insurer who is consistently cheaper than another, its simply a case of shopping around...
when i needed to make a claim back in 2007 when Mr. Magoo knocked me off the bike, Express who were my brokers at the time were great...until renewals time, even though it was a non fault accident...
so...shop around. same goes for car insurance.

  17. sounds about right...not so much 'bennetts babes' more like 'bennetts bitches'.

  18. So I got my Street Triple R (2010) insured with Carrol Nash with no problem and they got me quite a competitive quote with the wife as a named rider. But now I have come to get my 749 (2005) insured the best quote i've had so far is £6000!

Carol Nash couldn't give me a quote over the phone as they said they would have to contact the under writers in the morning, so i'm guessing its not going to be good news from them. I don't understand how this can be, being as I got insured on a more expensive, newer bike with no problem.

Anyone else have experience of insuring two bikes?

  19. I insured an MV and a Honda for approx £340. Added the Ducati and it doubled the premium !
