Did a tour of three Nation parks on the MTS last weekend with a bunch of guys from Biketours-uk. We were based in Ravenglass Cumbria. Had my first play with the GO Pro Hero 2 camera and the results should be posted below, camara is a bit shakey mounted on the back carrier of the Multi and I think the head cam worked better. keep a look out to the left around 4 mins 50 secs; someone had gone over the edge on Hardknott Pass with their Triumph Tiger 800 and mrs on the back. Air ambulance was required! Should point out they were not part of our group.
Looks like the Harknott Pass? If so, a fantastic road that I've done a few times on an 848. 'Adventure bike' definitely not required for this one!
Been over there on many bikes, but I can say the worst vehicle to do that road in is an XJS. Bonnet is so long you cant see anything on the uphill hairpins. Wouldnt do that again. A CBX has problems with ground clearance as well but its a lovely part of the lakes.
Spooky, I was in the UK Tiger Owners group on my new 1200 Explorer. I was running 2nd in the pack (about 30 Tigers) and saw you guys going the opposite way! The couple involved in the incident were from Northern Ireland and she broke her shoulder when they stopped and dropped the bike. She was airlifted to Whitehaven hospital and he went back to NI, collected his car and came back for his Mrs. All seems well now but she will be recovering for a few weeks yet having had an Operation when she got back to NI. A great weekend with an experienced local member leading the way that was only marred by this unfortunate incident. This is a link to the Tiger weekend forum and pics Login
Thought there were loads of Triumphs about, we stopped just down by the Roman fort and blocked the road off while the air ambulance landed. Glad to hear she is OK. Need a login to look at your pics.
Visited the lakes last week on LEJOG. Kirkstone pass in damp conditions didn't faze the Multistroodle, but once we started of up the A686 over Hartside she really showed her mettle. Sports mode engaged, did my best to keep the front wheel on the floor and failed, oh my, what fun! Only wish I'd taken the baffle out of the Termi to hear her howl. Apparently it sounded good enough to my Suzuki riding mate until I kind of left him behind :biggrin:
Love the UFO4MRH I suggest timing a clear run up some of the hairpins because if a car coming the other way forces you to stop the ground could be a long way down on some of those cambered very tight bends.
Ha yes the MRH are my initials. Luckily I am 6’ 4” so have no problem reaching the floor on the Multi but it is better not to stop midcorner.
Bike riding during the trip is much enjoyable for any tourist. Because the experience and enjoyment they will feel by the bike riding they couldn't feel this golden enjoyable moments....
A group of us spent a few days last year over in the lakes, it was one of the wettest weekends on record and two days before we went most places where flooded (Kendal, Ambleside). It was a great weekend despite the weather and the R1 went well but the grip was bad from the racetecs. We did the Hardknott, the struggle out of Ambleside, Wrynose and Hartside. Hopefully here are some pics, will post some more if needed
That brings back some memories, I had an 06 R1 in the same colour. For touring the best tyres were Pilot Road 2cts. Plenty grip in the dry for road use, hard wearing and superb in the wet.
Fantastic road, one of my favorites. always try to do the hard knott when in the lakes, love going to the pub over the other side for a meal and real ale. Have even done it on a push bike a few years ago in my fitter days, overtaking cars on the way down, they were calling us nutters. Now I've got the new HyperStrada I hope to do it again soon.
