S4 Riding Position

  1. I'm 5'11 and 56 years old, my knees aren't what they used to be. I'm finding the tricked out rear sets that a previous owner fitted a little far back and yet leaving my size nines too close to the controls. Added to that, the rear brake is tucked in tight to the crank making finding it a case of heaving my toes in. I think a more touring stance with a more easily findable brake pedal is going to suit me much better and I'm guessing that is how the originals are?

I have the original rearset brackets but no pegs, fixings, or original gear and brake pedals. Are these the same on all early monsters? If so I reckon I can get what I need on ebay for about £100.

The bike has Termignoni high mounted cans on it, presuming these don't affect fitting standard rear sets? 24294400_10212851453853926_4800497974381928460_n.jpg

  3. Nah I sold a Multistrada to buy this.

Someone of FB reckons these aren't rear sets as such, he thinks they are pegs and brackets from another Ducati model, but I think they are definitely aftermarket.

  4. That hanger/bracket definitely looks Ducati pillion ish with an added footpeg but if you Google pictures of the S4 with high level exhausts, there are a few alternatives. What appears to be the OE footpegs do look to bring your foot forward. Andy

  5. That'll be me!

The variable pegs fitted to the hangers you already have will switch across to the stock hangers you have. The rear brake master cylinder will bolt to the same hangers leaving you only to find the brake pedal / gear lever and mounting hardware.

I know you're not after rearsets but Race Supplies do a great set for £120 which include everything you need for rider only. Bear in mind they are fixed pegs not flexible but all parts are available as spares.

  6. Bear in mind that race supplies ones may not have a rear switch locator (depending wheee yours is fitted). And will be fixed. Looks like rear hangers or SS ones with the avanti style eccentric pegs that for almost anything.

Have you googled a standard bike to see what the pegs look like? No idea if same as other monsters, but front memory they were one piece incl front/rear peg and exhaust bracket

  7. The photo I have of mine is not clear and would be no good to show but I do remember I had real difficulty fitting high level pipes with standard footrest hangers and had to change them.
I am not being rude but the footrest hangers are a cheap "bodge" something the previous owner has made do with
Don't get standard hangers if you are keeping that exhaust system they won't fit

  8. They were only a suggestion as one option to remedy the current issue.

All Monsters up to and including the S4 had the same one piece footrest mounts held on by 4 bolts (two on frame + two on engine).

I would imagine that you could space out the stock mounts quite easily by 10mm (for example) to clear any high level pipes.

Personally I like low pipes on the Monster and have the opposite issue in which I now need to add some pipe hangers!

  9. Thanks for the replies. I agree, the peg set up is a bit rubbish and I've been playing around seeing if the standard ones will fit. So far I'm pretty encouraged as the left one fits as long as I reuse the 12mm spacers that are currently fitted to the existing bodge up. I'l need some more for where the bracket bolts to the engine. A nice fella on the FB Ducati group is sending me some complete brackets with everything attached for £100 so I hope the right side fits too! Straight away, the position feels better for my left leg.

  10. I am amassing a collection of foot peg bits and pieces.

I have a bare pair of brackets/hangers that came with the bike and a chap sent me a complete set definitely from an S4.

Weirdly both sets have the same part numbers but the pair I have push the pillion pegs back and up 3" or so and will fit with the high level exhaust If I use a 10mm spacer.

Whilst the other definitely original S4 brackets clash with the exhaust, I'd have to fit 20mm spacers and that would mean the screws are too short and they aren't a common item , but that pair seem to have a better pillion peg position.

Have the schematics and they seem to show spacers anyway?
Can anyone confirm this and are they approx 10mm?

  11. Nailed this issue now, well happy with the result which is the original Ducati standard set up and parts, the standard spacers mean I have clearance on the Termis. The brackets I bought in got discarded as someone had chopped and welded em, funny what gets done to bikes in the course of their life. Thanks for the input everyone/
