Had belts changed on my 916 2 years ago done 50 miles then put in garage and haven’t started it since . Do they really need changing again or shall I take the chance ,took covers off and they are still like brand new !!!!!
It's one of those things; you could get by without changing them for 3 years and you'll be fine or the next time you start it you'll pop one and hate yourself. Depends on the climate too. Some places with extreme variations can be hard on rubber.
Your choice but I wouldn't be changing them. Inspect them regularly and make sure they are set to 90 Hz in-service tension. Belts almost never just fail, they break because they were badly fitted or because some other failure causes the engine to seize. My daughter's Fiesta did 120, 000 miles over 12 years on its original belt and that had to overcome valve springs, which Ducati belts don't.
I did mine after about 8 years, with annual inspections, the removed belts looked like they could do another 8 years.
When I bought my 999R Fila it had 1500 miles on the clock and original belts - 12 years old. I made sure I started it before I bought it At 2 years old I'd use them for a while, but it's your decision at the end of the day and yours alone
Had my belts changed in 2014 at the 12k mile desmo service and 5k miles later they are still going strong. Will get them changed next year at the 18k desmo. Hardly keeping to recommend belt service intervals but I'm comfortable with that. Some would say strict 2 year belt change is cheap insurance. I would say that it's like PPI - expensive and unnecessary.
