I need to buy a clip on type of microphone for my laptop ( Acer Aspire 5332 ) but I can't work out if I need a stereo or mono type. I already have a mono microphone (600 ohm) with a 3.5mm jack plug and although that seems to fit in the female socket on my laptop, now I have managed to download 'Cool edit software' there is nothing showing on the frequency check screen. I suspect that it's not compatible with my laptop. any advice appreciated.
o.k I have found out that it is in fact a Mono plug, Would still welcome advice or link as to what is a suitable microphone though. The one I have is the sort of thing that you sing into! And I thought I had cracked the download of cool edit software, well I was wrong. Now about a total of 8 hrs spent buggering about trying to download it successfully without all the other stuff they want you to have- toolbars, etc. Nearly put the laptop through the f' window earlier!
I just bought a tiny stereo mike off eBay like this 3.5mm Hands Free Clip On Mini Lapel Mic Microphone,k | eBay As for suitable software look at Home of CBMTool the Ducati belt tensioning tool or On the Ducatidiag Forum - Look in the Stickies in the International Section, in French it's [h=3]Courroies[/h]
chrisw Thanks for the reply. The microphone appears to have a 'stereo' jack plug fitted. Have you actually used your yet? Downloaded the cbm tool, which was very straightforward, unlike all the others I have tried. unfortunately the window that opens up is in a minimized size, and refuses despite all my efforts to maximize. Nothing happens when I click on the minimize/maximize button! The actual belt change is the easy part, my software problems are driving me mad!
There's a much easier way to do this chaps. Get a guitar tuning app on your mobile, such as G-Tune on Android and set it to auto-tune. It will show you 110Hz on a twanged belt no problem. I did this just recently when rebuilding my ST4s. A Samsung Galaxy Nexus plus G-Tune. Worked a treat. Saves you faffing about with laptops and microphones. Just place the mic of the phone near the belt and give it a twang. The large screen is easy tor read and the digital plus analogue style read out gives you a good idea of when you are right on the mark. Job, jobbed as they say.
Thanks for the tip Ascalon . I don't have one of them new fangled smart phones though. And, if I did, I doubt if I would be able to use it, far too complex. I am still using a slide rule!
The window maybe wrongly sized as your fonts have been resized goto your setting and change them and the window will be correct.
Thanks Arthur. I will give it a try........ I might be some time! Btw Chrisw, I have now successfully managed to download the Ducatidiag software, and can see something happening when I make a noise into my microphone, I'm presuming that the vertical red line is the 'target line' which in my case is 110Hz?.
It would appear to me that you require "STEREO" Allen Keys one 5mm and one 6mm, insert adjust, job done, just sayin like........
