Ex Forces Ptsd

  1. Families living with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

My name is Martin McConnell. I am a veteran of the British Armed Forces and have served my

country for 8 years throughout a variety of international conflicts and peacetime events. I have personally witnessed the devastating effects of war on my fellow ex-comrades and I myself, I am also a sufferer of this debilitating disorder. I have first-hand experience of how symptoms of PTSD can affect individuals and the harsh and emotional turmoil this can place on families and loved ones. PTSD is a disorder you cannot see and therefore, often goes unnoticed and undiagnosed. As motorcycle enthusiast, I have organised a number of events, which range from participating in a 200mph Challenge and have organised and completed a five Country Challenge with ten fellow ex-military veterans. I regularly hold auctions on Facebook and Twitter, relying solely on donated merchandise and have designed and host a dedicated website http://www.exforcesptsd.org

To date, I have successfully raised Over £25,000 to enable ex-veterans suffering from PTSD and their families to have a holiday, rest and recuperate but above all, reconnect family bonds and relationships. Up to date we have paid for 6 family holidays to Jersey through Holiday for heroes Jersey.
My next event is the 200mph challenge at Elvington York in May,

1 man, 1 bike, And my 3rd and final attempt to reach 200mph on road legal bike Kawasaki ZZR1400. To raise money for Ex Forces families living under the cloud of PTSD

This is a sponsored event, I really would be truly grateful if you could spare a few Pounds and sponsor me. All money raised will go to another Ex forces family holiday in Jersey. Link is below to if you wish to sponsor me. Thank you all

  6. Thanks bud, really appreciated :) :)

  7. Martin. Well done. I wonder if I can help. I distribute a product called VBOX in UK and our products measure speed among other things VERY accurately. I would be happy to fit one to your bike and log the data for you. I would be happy to attend the event and operate the system FoC. VBOX has been used previously in world record speed attempts buts its mainly used in vehicle development. Let me know what you think.

  12. Hi Martin, I'm also a veteran with 24 years service and like you I'm fully aware of the affects of PTSD. I support a local charity here in Northern Ireland, 'Beyond the Battlefield' who organise lots of events including ride outs and BBQs etc, and they have helped a lot of veterans throughout the province. It is great a cause and total respect to you well to you for the support you're providing.

I'm currently at work in the Middle East and unfortunately with the imposed internet restrictions where I work, I can't access the website, and I don't Facebook etc, but I'll be returning home at the end of next month and will happily make my donation. So good luck with challenge, I hope you do it, but if you don't it doesn't matter, I'm happy to donate to a worthy cause. John.

  13. Wow, thank you John, stay save over there I have been there myself. Speak soon. Mart

  15. Just thought I would give u guys an update as to how things are coming along. I went to Elvington yesterday for a practise session in high side winds. Not fun I will say LOL But I did achieve my best ever speed 198.35 only 1.7mph off the 200mph, feeling very chuffed and to top it all I was the fastest of the day against some serious BHP bikes. :) :)

  16. Nice work. Out of interest I'm assuming that's GPS or something? what are you seeing on the clock?

  17. I've done similar with my car. At the speed trap you hit 2 beams several metres apart which gives your top speed reading. On my last run I braked 10 metres later which banged my reading right up! 196mph and still climbing (200 on the speedo). We also got 0-60, 0-100, standing quarter mile etc. There is always a timing company at such events.

  18. Nice one Martin, well done mate, :upyeah:. Disappointing that there's no Ducati's in there though,.
