My 900SS was Datatagged back in 1995. Obviously the markings were made to not come off, but does anyone know a way to actually get the stuff off without damaging the paintwork. Every panel, and even the mirror glasses have been marked with this stuff. If it can't be removed, is it OK to paint over or does it have some miracle ingredient that prevents paint from adhering to the surface? It's the black letter and numbers tags made up of dots. I understand why it was used and the idea behind it, but why the hell would anyone put this stuff on their bike. It looks terrible.
You can't remove them, they're etched into the paint I'm afraid. I don't know about painting over them but I've tried to T Cut, rub down, different chemicals, you name it, all with no joy, other than removing the paint!
Thanks for that. Looks like I'll have to have the panels rubbed down and sprayed. Great. Does anyone know if the mirror glass in the in the SS mirrors can be replaced? It looks like the bloody stuff is acid etched in to the glass.
I have had to mend a mirror case and I reckon the glass cannot be removed / replaced............ ............I wish I had found these before I mended and re-painted them......they appear to be virtually identical and I believe they can be got in black as well Universal Mirrors Red - M04RD AL.
The originals were made by Vitaloni. They were taken over by Barrac in the 90's. Barrac are now listing this item and it looks pretty much like the original SS mirrors. Storm rosso - Barrac s.r.l. Anyone know if this is a direct replacement ? Are they any good? Is the colour the right match? Cheers
I've now got the same problem, does anyone know if the actual datatag sticker can be removed, the green coloured hologram sticker thingy. Some say it can others it will damage the paint underneath. Anybody tried ?
