  1. Hello all. I'm new round these parts so be nice.

I'm in the process (I hope, but thats another story) of buying a 2010 Multistrada S Touring. Deposit paid, just a bit of a problem to sort out before I can have it (thats another story too).

Anyway, what I'd be very grateful to find out is what upgrades etc should have been done to the bike by the Ducati dealer? I know about the leaking panniers but I'm not clear on what should have been done. Should I be worried about the rear brake?? And what else should I worry about, there seems to be, err, quite a list!

    Any advice would be appreciated.

  2. Good evening, I can't help with your questions as I don't have a Multi but those in the know will soon be along with the definitive list!

  3. Hi and welcome
If your bike has been serviced by a Ducati dealer most of the upgrades should have been done, a dealer will be able to tell from their data base.

Loads of details on this site if you search but briefly:
The panniers should have an extra black clip fitted at the front and back of each pannier to help pull the seal together on the lid
The bike will I am sure have been re-mapped to cure a surging issue with early bikes
The rear brake is poor and has been known to get long travel on it to the point of not working at all, there is an upgrade kit available but not fitted as a recall. It is fitted to those who complain but the upgrade is still not great (IMO)
The red switch on the righthand switchgear should/may have been replaced
The coolant should have been replaced; pink colour not blue.
    Am sure there is more,

  4. So lets hear the buying and problem story.........

  5. Thanks for the replies.
Not much of a story to be honest, sorry to get your hopes up!

Went to look at the bike, rode it and did a deal which included PXing my KTM (it's a KTM dealer). However, when they got it in the workshop to check it over it had a n ABS fault. It went to a Ducati dealer to be sorted but for reasons which are unclear to me at pesent, it was removed and was supposed to go to another dealer on Friday. Then it snowed, and thats where we are after 2 weeks.

It has a main dealer history so I'm hoping that the free upgrades have been done, but I'll have a good poke around when and if I get to collect it (yes, I know I should have already done that, I'm impulsive!).

  6. Am sure your dealer will give some sort of warranty even if it's only short. It's very worthwhile trying the bike in all 4 power modes, checking the heated grips work on all power levels (check the wear on the left hand grip), make sure non of the warning lights on the dash even faintly glow or have any missing pixels (the dash's are expensive and have been known to fail. Just remember there are some very high tech bits on this bike as far as electronics are concerned and it's well worth making sure everything works as it should when you pick it up.
For me the engine is the best bit about this bike and in sports mode it is a proper rocket ship and is an amazing ride. If not already fitted Michelin pilot road 3s prove a great replacement for the Pirelli Scorpions (unless you want to go offload)
i had problems with the bike not unlocking and locking with the fob so check that all is fine and carry a spare battery under the seat for the fob.
The fluid in the reservoir for the clutch goes black quite quickly (don't ask me why but they all do it) if it's clear it's not long been changed or it's not done many miles.
when you sit on the bike make sure you are happy where your foot sits on the peg as I with many others found the centre stand lug is in the way and have inadvertently had my foot on this lug when cornering and found the centre stand touching down on the Tarmac.
I would definitely get it serviced at a main Ducati dealer there are plenty of recommendations on this site. Don't be to put off by members who have issues, there are plenty of folks very happy with their machines, just luck how it all works out

  7. Hello and welcome. The bike will be fine with the dealer and they 'should' see you right. I was expected you to say you need advise hiding it from your significant other

  8. Hello and welcome to the forum

  9. They've put a standard 3 month warranty on it, plus an additional 3 on the brakes at my request as this is where the problem is at present.

All very useful info, thanks very much.

  10. Unfortunateley hiding it is not possible (even my Mrs can spot the difference between the KTM and Ducati). But slightly adjusting the figures is very possible. And advisable.
