1200 Pikes Peak Handlebar Grips

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Ballbagracer, Apr 19, 2018.

  1. I have previously used the Renthal grips on my sports bikes, but having moved over to the Multistrada I was wondering if any of you use the Renthals? what do you use?

  2. Grip Puppies over whatever grip is fitted. I love their fat sqishiness.:)

  3. If you have heated grips forget it.

  4. Steviegtr, I disagree. I've had heated grips and Grip Puppies on all my Multis (one aircooled and three watercooled) and heat gets through with very little loss. The grips don't insulate much as they are not solid but porous and permeable. It's only on the DVT that I don't get good heating, but that is due to the crap heated grips Ducati specified on that model when confronted with multiple warranty claims on failures. All the others kept my hands warm. The 1260 has heated grips that work well and I asked my dealer about getting a pair of them fitted to my 2015 bike. He said the supplier of the handlebar electrical items had changed for that model and he doubted they wold be backward compatible.

  5. I agree: Grip Puppies over the top of the standard grips work well. I find the OEM grips too small and too hard, so the soft grips are the answer. Also keep the OEM grips underneath in pristine condition, ready for when the bike gets sold. NB Persons with Trump-sized hands might find them too big.

  6. +1 for Grip Puppies. Like @Pete1950, I find the OEM grips too small (diameter) and a bit hard. The heated grips seem to work fine with Grip Puppies fitted.

  7. +1 on the Puppies and the shit performance of the DVT heated grips.

  8. I put progrips on all my bikes. I like the sticky rough feeling.

  9. Although many Panigale users love the Progrips, I've never had the need to change grips on both the Panigale and the Monster.
However, unlike the former's, I find the Multi's grip quite hard and plasticy. How do the Progrips work on heated grips?

  10. Dunno, but I assume they would not fit over heated grips. Ask whereever you're buying it from?

  11. Personally I don't bother with the grip puppy option, instead I use cricket bat handle replacement rubber grips, Dead easy to cut to size and with a little bit of effort they slide right over the heated grip, protect them and allow the heater elements still to do their thing and at a little under £4 per length, they are really cost effective too.

In addition, if you are a colour co-ordinating sort of person, then there are a huge range of colour choices too. Mine in red perfectly suit my glorious red MTS - Lovingly cleaned and sorted this afternoon: well overdue too as the screen and front of the bike looked like a million insects had committed hara-kiri all over it....

  12. Oh that's just great. As a Canadian, I now have to use Hockey Tape in lieu of cricket Bat handles ? o_O

  13. Use grip puppies @DarR

  15. Dragging this one out of the archives. I want to replace the badly worn grips on my 2010. Does the cricket bat grip replace the original, or slip over it like a grip puppy? Any other alternative to OEM that accommodate heaters?

  16. I think the cricket bat ones just slip over, is that right @TonyMNo1 ?

  17. As T4M says above, it simply rolls over the original rubber. Takes a bit of care and attention, but it does work and will need replacing again after around 12-18 months or so.

  18. Tony - I'm strangely aroused by you description of rolling it over the original rubber :D
