1260 First Proper Ride - Thoughts

  1. Well I picked up my 1260 on Saturday and had my first proper ride on it today. Just thought I would share a few thoughts. This is my first ever Ducati.

To start with it is everything (in a good way) I expected a Ducati would be. My last bike was a 1200 Super Tenere and I wouldn't say a bad word about it, its a great bike. The thing missing though was the grin factor. I suspected a Multistrada would give me that and it sure does!
The electronics on the bike are incredible, I have started evening classes for the dash, and hope to understand everything in a few weeks. I find the ride and handling fantastic. The motor is incredible, the quick shifter amazing, I could go on...............You owners will know all this of course!

The ergonomics are almost right for me, I had 20mm bar risers put on which is spot on for me, and have ordered a comfort seat. The stock one is okay but I'm fussy about seats. WTF if they have a 'comfort seat' do they not put it on in the first place, its not like the bike is cheap, but all the manufacturers do this and we know why.
I need to do something about the screen, it's almost there as it is, but not quite, a little too much turbulence for me.

    Negatives?
I'm struggling. The main beam lock lever could be better located. The high seat to low seat adjustment is a bit of a mission, but seeing as I don't intend changing it, it's not really a problem.

Long term reliability, I have to wait and see. In this respect it has a hard act to follow as the Tenere was ultra reliable and I didn't have a single issue in 30,000 miles in 3 years, but from everything I am seeing here Ducati have upped their game, so I am hopeful.

Hopefully this will be a little help to anyone thinking about getting a 1260 or their first Ducati. I know I devoured any information and opinions when I was looking into getting one.

Can't wait to get back on it!:upyeah:

  2. I agree the only slight niggle I have with my 1260 PP is the screen turbulence, why can’t Ducati get this sorted

It’s been with the bike since the 2010 bike was launched

  3. Re the turbulence and screen I have the Wunderlich screen deflector vario ergo on my 2013 twin spark and it really sorts the unpleasant wind turbulence. Would not be without it. Not a lot for quite a bit of cash but, for, me very effective.

  4. I have the comfort seat on mine, raises the seat over an inch. May be willing to let mine go, I've put the std one bacon and would only use occasionally for longer tours (its mega comfy the twice I've used it).

  5. I didn't realise the comfort seat raises it by over an inch, that's quite a lot! Is that why you don't use it much?

  6. Only recently bought it, and it’s. It everyday usable for me really

  7. To be fair, the Pike Peak is a pseudo race replica and as such if you're using it as intended you'd be in the "full-tuck" position racing up some mountain roads, behind a smaller screen intended to reduce drag. If form was chosen over function then I don't think you can blame Ducati for that. Nothing to stop you getting an actual screen, but I guess that would defeat the point of dumping nearly £21K on a race rep.

Don't get me wrong, I love the look of that screen too hence the reason why I put one on my 1260S, but I can't think of anyone else but myself to blame if I end up with a less comfortable ride as a result.

  8. 1260PP come with the tall screen as well, And that creates even more wind noise

Smaller carbon screen is slightly better, but looks much better

I wear ear plugs all the time anyway, so its just about bearable
