As I get to grips with he S4 I bought in winter, I realise that it has been staring me in the face that the airbox has been modded. The lid top has been sawn of exposing the whole of the K and N filter. Also a power commander module has been fitted. I don't need any extra power and my main aim is reliability and longevity and cheaper insurance, so I thought I wold undo these mods..... Thoughts? Anyone got a spare S4 Filter lid they can sell me? What other models would fit?
It probably won't make a massive difference to power - I've never had a massive amount of success with Power Commanders on Ducatis - at best you'll have a bit more mid range stomp. As for the airbox lid, that will add more noise, that's all. Personally I'd leave it be, as the induction noise must be lovely! I'm not a K&N fan though - I'm not convinced they flow a greater amount of air unless the filter oil is absolutely spot-on. Yes they're re-usable, but a standard air filter is cheap, so my preference has always been to regularly replace that instead.
