Hello You Lot, I’m going to look at/ pick up a bike for a friend on Thursday (note to self: never get a van, and if you must get a van, never answer the phone as people will call you all the time and start conversations with the line “you’ve got a van, haven’t you? Would you mind just...” instead of saying “Hello Nerv, would you like a nice cake or equivalent?”) and I’d like to make sure that the paperwork is as in order as possible. The bike (1199) only has the CoC, so I’d like to be able to check against what’s on that with what’s on the bike if that’s possible. From memory, there is a sticker on the l/h/s of the headstock that relates to the chassis, but I don’t recall ever seeing an engine number anywhere. Is there something specific that I can check/ cross-reference with the CoC on the engine itself, or is it the case that the engine being in effect the chassis only has that number? I’m guessing that’s not the case as it would be so easy to switch engines out if so. I really don’t want to let him down or mess this up, so anything you could point me towards would be super handy. Chassis No is on the Off side head stock (just by the fork tube. Engine No is on the rear cylinder just above the starter motor Tracer
Ok, I’ve just had a look on a mates bike as a dry run, and cannot for the life of me find an engine number. Do fairings/ trim/ etc need to be removed to find it?
Try removing the lower fairing on the right-hand side of the bike. Can you see the starter? Just ahead of the starter you should be able to see the identification number stamped on the bottom of the horizontal cylinder.
