    Evening all,

Not a thread I wanted to be posting but...just dropped my 1098S, blindsided, hit the kerb & flipped onto lh side. Obvious damage apart from my busted collarbone is a broken lh fairing, broken gear lever & lh foot rest. Scratch damaged clutch lever, nose & tail fairing.

Not sure if forks are damaged but there does seem to be a clicking when front brake is applied.

So basically, advice please guys n gals. JHP Coventry is my local but anyone any other thoughts/options. With a recent £1000 service, cost is an issue :-(

  2. Buggar! I can't offer anything but my sympathy! Hope you mend quickly and the bike gets sorted too.

  3. Sorry to read this, I dislocated my shoulder and it bloody hurts! I don't have any parts for you and I'm not a sprayer but I'm sure you'll get it sorted soon along with your collarbone - goodluck.

  4. I would inform your insurance company but say you are not sure if you want to make a claim till you know the full extent of the damage and cost to repair so you keep all your options open. I hope you recover soon and the damage to the bike is not terminal.

  6. That will go on your insurance record as having an accident in the last 5 years, regardless if you claim or not.

My car got hit while parked. I returned to find the back bumper smashed. Told insurance company while I decided to claim or not. I never claimed but it was held against me for 5 yrs on car and bike insurance.

  7. Feel for you...simple mis communication has so far tallied up almost 3k for an engine rebuild...

  8. No, it will be recorded regardless. Look at excess etc. plus increase in insurance BEFORE calling!

    Good luck.

  9. Definitely....I'd say repair yourself...if you claim it'll become cat'd....is it D or C I can never remember...and that'll knock the value down even more...

  10. It may be more cost effective to repair this yourself rather than have it recorded on the insurace record of the bike, devaluing it forever.

  11. That is my plan but just want value for money. Fairings, levers & pegs I can eBay. Forks if necessary I’d need proper advice

  12. If you want to keep the bike, repair yourself. Probably 2k worth of damage.

If you aren’t that bothered, it’s only a bike, and don’t have that kind of money, weigh up the cost of claiming. Remember, will have to tell all other vehicle insurers, and while it shouldn’t affect other premiums it may make some insurers not want you so limit choice.

  13. It’s definitely not “only a bike” bradders but why do you say it’ll cost £2k?

  14. Fairings will be tough to source or expensive to repair. Is the swingarm damaged? You may be able to pick one up for 100-200 but you’ll need to swap out. Depends if buying replacement stuff new, having someone do it for you or repairing and making do and doing it yourself.

  15. No swing arm looks good, think I can repair scratches in nose & tail fairings but will need lh side fairing, pegs & gear lever. What I’m concerned about is the forks. They look OK but I don’t remember a slight clicking sound when actioned before?

  16. Takes a big amount of force to damage a fork, other than outside cosmetic stuff.

  17. Are the lock stops on the lower tripple ok? I did the same to a Fireblade many moons ago. The most expensive item was a new lower tripple because it twisted during the crash and the clipons and upper clamp were not straight afterwards. The forks themselves were fine.

  19. My 848 was CatD with similar damage. If the bike is a keeper, it may be worth going through insurance with the intention of buying back cheap and using the payout plus change.

  20. How much did it increase your premiums and excess by or was it just a case of mentioning it when getting new quotes ?
