749 Fuel Pump Not Priming

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by Scotty-vr46, May 21, 2018.

  1. Hey. So tried starting my bike and no priming. However this is intermittent so I changed the battery. Which I thought fixed the issue. However today same again. So I flicked the ignition on/off a few time and wala, pump now priming.bike now starts. So suspect relay fault. Any ideas guys/girls. Thanks

  3. Do you know exactly what relay it is so I can order one. Just need numbers and a pic of possible

  5. Sounds like a problem I had a few years ago on my 748 and it turned out to be the side stand relay

  6. Think I should change all the relays?

  7. Mine had a mind of its own when trying to start it , some times the pump would prime and other times it wouldn’t . The side stand relay was the problem , on the 748 it’s one of the two small relays beside the battery on the right hand side . There’s a total of 4 relays at the battery the 2 small black ones one big black one and a yellow one not sure if it’s the same on your bike

  8. Had the same issue with mine a few years back, it’s the fuel pump relay located in the electric box behind the left hand side fairing behind the front wheel. They cost next to nothing from ducati, replace it, cut a piece of bicycle inner tube about 4-5 inches long, bend over one end and cable tie it up, pack it with vasoline (it doesn’t conduct) then cable tie the end with the cable, I used 2 cable ties to create 2 seals.

Mine died at Betws-y-Coed so me and my dad stripped the bike down in a car park and hot wired the bike in front of a massing crowd so it was permanently in prime, it was fun getting it home without turning it off, as I knew it was going to completely fuck the battery, which it did

  9. Of course, if it's not dark, you can just swap this relay for the identical headlight relay to get home.
