1260 Trackday Multistrada 1260s

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Espen, May 25, 2018.

  1. Been eagerly waiting for my first trackday with the MTS and today was the day.

Firstly, the bike works on track! I started in the red group (highspeed with plates) and it didn´t take many turns before I found myself scraping pegs, gearlever and brakelever keeping up with the fast pack.

    Setup:
    - Standard Multistrada 1260S
    - Front&Rear tires at 2.1 bar cold
    - Tires: OEM Pirelli Scorpion Trail II
    - Ride mode: Sport
    - Front suspension: Preload 3 turns in, compression and rebound electronically set to max
    - Rear suspension: Preload set to max (pillon&luggage), compression and rebound electronically set to max

Engine: Punch out of corners is amazing, 2´nd or 3´rd didn´t matter much, the oomph gutted me and the bike forward with ease. On the straits I could keep up with most of the R-bikes and I saw 220kph on the long straight at Rudskogen.

Quickshifter and autoblipper: Worked really good on track. Blipping down into corners without clutch was effortless and the engine breaking helped slow the speed nicely. The quickshifter is really smooth and feeding the gears in works great.

Tracktion control: I never really noticed it. I fed the throttle hard and early out of corners with no drama.

Brakes: Really nice front brakes, the Brembos has some nice stopping power. I never noticed the ABS though I tried breaking harder and later than the others.

Chassis: Very nice and stable. Confidence-inspiring! It was never out of shape and wheelies out of corners and some weaving into corners due to light rear was dramaless.

Rider skills: The only downside is my riding skills. I need to recalibrate my body-position and hang off more to prevent as much lean angle. Scrubbing brake-lever and shift-lever is not really a good thing.

Looking forward to the next trackday with this amazing bike :)

  2. Which track?

  3. Tyres are virtually unmarked - great wear characteristics.
    Nice one.

  4. was that top box an aerodynamic after thought ..to keep the back end planted ??? ;)

  5. Had my 1260 round Thruxton on Wednesday, having done Thruxton on a 2015 Twin Spark some 4 years ago the difference was noticeable. On the long fast sweeping corners the front end of the TS was a little jittery, you could feel the bars getting light under power. On the 1260 it was just as fast if not more so and absolutely rock solid in the fast bends. Great fun and the Road 5's are showing some wear on the RH side!

  8. Did the centre stand touch down ?

  9. M
    no :)

  10. I’ll be honest, I’m amazed on a couple of points.. one the stand didnt when the pegs have a lot, two the tyres coped as well as that and three the tyres allowed you to do that at all. :upyeah::upyeah:

  11. You need the race-exhaust system & upgraded ECU settings.

  12. The Michelin Road 5's got a bit hot on Wednesday at Thruxton as you can see

I blame the 1260 motor for the above as it obviously puts out too much torque! It was a quite warm day and the only thing that touched was my boot and that was my fault. Obviously I need to try harder :)

  13. Yes, the PR4s move about quite a bit on track or fast road rides. The scorpions tho just simply run out of grip too soon...I was off the front and rear without grinding anything out. Same action with PR4 leaves a good 10mm strip unused.

Try some supercorsas and you’ll drag everything ;)

  15. Aggreed!
Looks like they lifted them around 5 cm.
They are using the seat-raiser one one of the bikes, I guess with pegs that high that is a smart move.

  16. How did you get on to Thruxton? I have been trying to get a day there for a couple of years now!

  17. Normally these are dealer event days, I think Riders run one maybe?

  18. a lot mark proof to you be solid rider, question for you, how many turn out on your front end fork? I have my DVT 10 turn out in sport mode when I hit 140mph I feel like front will loose on me, I feel like I need front damper.

  19. Yes they did that only in one multi because is the tall rider :p image (2).jpeg

  20. I didn't count max turns in, I measured SAG on default settings and found 3 turns in to be quite good.
