The Fight Against Ticket Touts

  1. Wifey paid some fu king site £200 for 2 tickets to see Rag an Bone, fu king tickets only £20odd each and were still that price on ticketmaster. I still cry myself to sleep over that one

  2. Behind this is are the PRS who currently take 3% of the ticket price from promoters, when tickets are resold on the secondary market they don't get their share of the resale price. I don't necessarily agree with how PRS get their money, they aren't open in how they redistribute the funds they receive, but that is what is unique about concert tickets, they all have 'not for resale' printed on them.

So whilst this is dressed up as a good thing for the consumer, to only pay the face value of the tickets plus booking fees, the reality is it's a drive by PRS to get as much as they can from the sale of tickets. If they can kill off the secondary ticket market then the prices will rise on the primary market. They believe, but can't prove, many promoters are allowing most of their tickets to go direct to the secondary market and avoid paying 3% of the actual sale price to them.

  3. Sorry but I cannot follow what point you are making. Do you think the resale of tickets should be permitted? Restricted? Forbidden? Why should tickets be treated differently from any other saleable commodity? Or shouldn't they be?

  4. I think the resale of tickets should be permitted. The legal basis is they can be, it's only football tickets that can't. But buyers should beware, they may not gain entry if they buy a ticket on the secondary market. Which is often not made clear when you buy a ticket this way. Why would you pay several times above the face value of the ticket if you knew this? If I'm critical of anything it's the secondary sellers who hide both the face value of the ticket and the risks to the buyer.

My point is that parts of the industry and the PRS in particular would like to restrict the resale of tickets.
