Rear Light L.e.d Panel Is It Replaceable?

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by CRYSTALJOHN, May 29, 2018.

  1. I have a faulty rear light on my 1000DS, some of the l.e.d's are not working.
I have tested the 2 diodes which seem to work O.k. I'm wondering if the led panel is available as a spare part, rather than buying a complete rear light unit which I'm sure will probably be very expensive from Ducati.
Any ideas welcome. rear light led panel.JPG IMG_0609 (1).JPG

  2. I feel sure you would be able to replace the LED’s @CRYSTALJOHN

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  3. How about converting it to bulb holders and use led bulbs

  4. Check the individual LED's. There will be a series / parallel arrangement and one faulty LED will knock out a whole section. You can then replace the faulty ones and hopefully the whole lot will light up.

  5. IMG_0622.JPG .[/ATTACH] Sounds like a plan Derek

The individual led's have a 4 pin connection into the board which will make it tricky( but not impossible) to de-solder. Any de-soldering tips would be welcome, ideally need more than 1 set of hands!

Any idea where I can source the led's?

Have also considered buying something like this
    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Smoke-21...291681?hash=item235889f5a1:g:sCsAAOSwQTVV7rAa

and seeing if it will fit in the existing light.

  6. It’s not an oem light board, should be filament lamp, so a google or eBay, may bring up a new one?

  7. Thanks Nelly

I thought it was a bit 'new fangled' to have an led display on such an old bike!

  8. Actually @CRYSTALJOHN , I may have one of those lights in my box of bits. Same as 749 isn’t it?
If you can wait til the weekend I’ll see if I can find it and, if so, you can have it.

  14. No. I'm staying in a dormitory full of Somalians, very strange place, but as the alcohol is kicking in I'm starting to enjoy it.
