I’ve had them on for a week or so now .. can’t fault them so far great feel in the cold and wet and tips in lovely .
Just FYI - coulld be time of year I guess but tried to order some of these today - 190/55 are showing as unavailable some places, and out of stock everywhere else I looked. I had them in my basket since Tuesday with visor shop and then this morning - discontinued!? Bought some Roadtec 01’s as front is desperate, and will try the 5’s next time maybe.
I put a set on my 1200s replacing the PR4 already on. The PR5 are a vast improvement. Just give me more confidence alround.
I'm definitely a PR4 convert and would like to try the PR5's, but for my forthcoming trip over to Haute Savoie, I'm going to stick with the Scorpion Trail 2's, just to run them out and then on return to the UK, having covered circa 3.5k miles on them, change them to the PR5's. I've never been that much of a 'fan' of the standard fit Scorpion's, but I have to say steering and reaction from them in the dry, has been pretty decent and not unsettling, however, in the wet riding through and around numerous mountain passes, maybe that will be a bit more testing! Might need some 'passage-blockers'...…...
1260S + Road 5's = Excellent tyre, give loads of feedback and just inspire confidence! Scorpion Trails didn't even turn a wheel on the 1260, had them swapped prior to picking up the bike and soooo glad i did!
I've just scrubbed in a front PR5 (still got a pretty new PR4 on the back). So far, it feels great, but then anything would after removing a PR4 with 6600 miles on it… …Strangely enough, Scotland is missing rain at the moment, so might have to wait a while to check wet grip. Nice problem to have.
Same here, swapped them before bike left dealer Great tyre, with lots of grip and confidence, not really tried them in the wet as yet, but they really suit the Multistrada, but to be fair the PR4’s I had on my previous bike were excellent also Don’t think they are that easy to get hold of at the moment though...?
Returning from a long weekend in the Vosges. Fitted Road 5s to the MV a week prior to departure. No issues at all, great feel and grip. Yesterday worst rain I've ever ridden in, period. Twisty mountain minor D road, water running across road in places though we did pull over when back on the N road at the valley bottom as water was around two inches deep, it was just incapable of running off the road in time. Hail stones were like being shot with a barrage of air rifles... Lesser rain/wet roads later on didn't present a problem, though not willing to press to the limit, a confident pace could be maintained so long as you kept an eye out for the 'black snakes' over banding they use there liberally ('interesting' to ride over in hot or wet conditions). Very impressed with the new iteration (they've dropped the 'pilot' part of the name), difficult to beat the PR4 but they appear to have pulled it of. Proof of the pudding will be in the longevity of the tyres. The Scorpions that come with the bike were toast after 2500 miles with the front showing similar edge wear to the PR4s I had on my previous heavier VFR. Thankfully both the Roadtec 01s and the PR4s I fitted subsequently to the Turismo didn't go the same way so hope for even wear on the Road 5s too.
I checked out the PR5's availability today with my local dealer outside Melksham, they confirmed that NO PR5 rears are likely to be available until at the earliest end June...……...They can't even get some in from elsewhere, so who the sodding hell is buying them all up? It's looking like a set of PR4's for me then, which I'm a big fan of anyway, as I've worked out that keeping the ST's on the bike, probably won't make the return mileage. So, contrary to what I said before, it looks like a new pair of boots, before the 14th June, which when I've had the bike ACF 50'd will make it ready to rock n' roll. Shame the rider is pants!! (Before anyone else says it for me.....just saying
Guess I got lucky, ordered weeks ago in anticipation of tours this summer. Others I have spoken to this last weekend on my French trip having similar issues trying to get hold of a set. Ebay seller I bought from is now showing no stock for the 120/70-17 190/55-17 combo I ordered.
Where are you guys buying the tyres? Normally I use Oponeo and have local dealer fit for £16 a wheel But the price of the Scorpion 2's in about £239 for set + fitting I already changed the rear 2 months ago - small hole in tyre (no nail) and was slowly loosing pressure - that was at 3500 miles so tyre was 85% gone - but now front needs changing as its heavily cupped (5100 miles) So contemplating either Scorpion 2 - or a complete swap.
I was given a voucher to claim £15 back for my rear RP5........ No go for a single tyre apparently only for pairs?? Not happy with the dealer.... On another note , Ive done 750 mile on the PR5 and had 2 moments on road ruts... 2nd cost me a trip into the curb ... a lot of Fairing rash and a bent gear lever
WTF - what size were these ruts? There are some big holes/trenches on our roads nowadays. So you've got a new (P)R5 on the back, what have you got on the front? I was looking forward to trying a a set of (P)R5s but looks like 190/55 ZR17 rears are not available at the moment. So back to the tried and tested PR4s for my next tour down to Haute Savoie for the EMM.
