Oberon King of the F'ing Fairies!

  1. I recently fitted a rather nice red Oberon slave cylinder. As expected it has made pulling the clutching a whole lot easier...:upyeah:

But - the biting point has moved right to the top of the lever travel...I no like!

I've bleed it! I've bleed it! I've bleed it! I've bleed it! I've bleed it! I've bleed it! I've bleed it!

Adjusted this and adjusted that.... I have now fitted the original one back on!

Is this the price one has to pay or an I being a massive dick?

If it's typical then the first one with £70 can have it! Only done a few miles, one little mark on the edge/ corner.

  2. I'm sure you can adjust bite point on the lever, underneath there could be a screw?

    Could on my monsters anyway....

  3. Gary on your lever, there's is the little plunger that actuate's onto the master cylinder ( you know the one that's a bastard to remove if you put new levers on) it's adjustable and that will adjust the biting point.....if it is bled properly.

I hope I'm not telling you something you already know

Lack of biting point is not a price I had to pay, so I'd hate to have to inform you of the rest

  4. Thanks Anth,

I did adjust there which helped, but then I had issues getting the bike into neutral...

  5. Well that's me all out of ideas......:frown:

  6. Early bikes 916 era had shorter push rods or longer can't remember. Anyhow replacement slaves had an extension bit in them could it be the rod to the clutch is a bit too long because the extension/spacer is in when you dont need it?

  7. Mine did come with said extension thing, that wasn't needed for the 848, I'm guessing your 10 motor will be the same and won't need it or fit with it in Gary.

  8. Yup - no need for extension jobbie, although I did try it out of desperation!

  9. It works just not 100% sure it couldnt be better as think still tiny amount of air in fluid

Havent done a new flush with new fluid yet - will have to wait as off to be serviced at weekend (MR may take pity on me if they think its not right and flush it through) but got the pump ready if not!

  10. The way to check to see if you need an adapter in your clutch slave is to measure how much of you clutch push rod sticks out at the slave cylinder.
If it comes out LESS than 30mm you will need to use the adapter.

The problem with making the piston bigger in an aftermarket slave cylinder to reduce the pull effort is that it needs to travel further to move the same amount of fluid.

Ducati also changed the bore of the clutch master, so up to 2000 it was 13mm and after it was 12mm.

If you put a 30mm slave onto a 12x20 master, you'll get a 41% reduction in lever pull but a 69% increase in the pull distance required! That's not going to work at all.

If you have an early (rubber seal) slave you're better off going with the updated Ducati OEM slave (star design) which is the same 25mm diameter but has a 15% lever effort reduction designed into it, and just use an adapter if you have the "short" clutch push rod.

    HTH.

  11. I changed my one to a oberon but at the same time fitted asv levers, all came together perfect, its a miracle because i am a welder and me fav tools are a angle grinder and a selection of hammers!!! Clutch is working great and a lot less force needed, mibbies i was just lucky

  12. l have a grinder and a welder 'what do you mean it dosent fit' LOL

  13. Everything "fits" with a big enough hammer!!(just dont tell the boss)

  14. I have an oberon fitted on my 12 streetfighter 848 and it works perfectly, i did have to bleed it several times with a vacuum bleeder though to get all the air out.

  15. I have the later star type and defo do not need the adaptor.
I have a horrible feeling it may have something to do with the blingy pressure plate that I changed around the same time (had this before) will try changing back to oem and see.

    Thanks for the input...:upyeah:

  16. I was gonna mention your spangley springs, but thought the problem only came after the Oberon.

  17. I was going to suggest some fairy dust - worked on my exhausts

  18. Went back to the oem springs! Still no better with oem plate! Bloody Ducati clutches are more myth and magic than mechanics! Grrrrr...!! !
