......can do the other one.......... .....Horizontal belt cover paint finish peeling off and the aluminium already sand cast or sand blasted, had pitted, corroded, gone black, particularly on the forward end...... .......simples, I thought, having done it loads of times on other machines........sand down and polish.........I can do that while I'm waiting for carb parts etc....besides the cover was off so I could check the belts anyway...... Several hours later..............................................have I had enough? Yep........black fingers, split skin.........and I have only just got to 600 grade wet and dry..... I might....repeat might.....get round to 1000 grade tomorrow...............or s*d it and fit it as it is......'brushed' aluminium looks quite nice anyway. AL.
Wear gloves. x12 Pairs - Ansell HyFlex 11-800 Foam Nitrile Gloves | eBay I have chronic oil/petrol dermatitis, any work on the bikes or car has to be done wearing gloves... vinyl or latex tend to make things worse what with the talc inside & sweat, found these to work extremely well in most conditions? Will stop most black & grime, breathable too! Was there enough paint left to warrant paint-stripper? I would have removed excess roughage/seams/bobbles etc carefully with a fine emery disc on an angle grinder.
I had the same thought when I polished my exhaust. The brushed effect actually looks pretty tidy... but it aint shiny so has to get polished!
Yeah, yeah , yeah.......I've seen enough of your grimy digits in your pics here and there...... There was plenty of paint left....but bearing in mind the sand cast casing, there was loads of sanding to do......the time, the time......the horror....... AL.
