Low Fuel Indicator not working on 800SS

  1. :frown: Hi can anybody help i have a 2005 800SS with only 8000 miles on it. Just recently the low fuel indicator stopped working. The low fuel message on the LCD display does not appear and the warning light on clock set does not light when low on fuel or empty. The warning light does however come on when it does its diagnostic checks when you first turn the ignition on so the bulb is ok. I have checked the wiring connections going to the unit in the tank and everything seems ok. I am convinced it is the float /sensor in the tank at fault. has any one had any experience of this and were you able to fix it without replacing unit as Ducati wanted about £120 + VAT for a new one. I was wondering if perhaps it worked using a float to operate a switch and maybe this had got stuck. This has caused me to run out of fuel once allready and not keen to have it happen again.

  2. its not working on my 900ss either but bike will do 157 miles before you have to start walking

  3. Do what everyone else does..........set your trip meter at zero and fill up every 100 miles.............

Even if you get the sender working by means of repair or a new one, the chances are it will stop again inside six weeks.....

Leave the low level light 'on' all the time, that way it will remind you to look at the trip meter.............Notwithstanding the fact you can't see the effing warning lights in bright sunshine anyway...

  4. Thanks,Its more like 135 miles on mine though.

  5. Thanks for replying, Yep thats what i am doing filling up about every 110 miles.

  6. Have you checked the Superseal Connector under the tank that feeds the fuel pump and the sender. The wires are prone to damage from rubbing against the block.

'Only a fool breaks the 100 mile rule'
