What sort of miles are people getting out of there brake pads? I know I could get down on my old knees and look but without taking them out could I see if they need changing, would rather do them myself than pay OYB. Thanks.
3k out the first set, they were probably 80% worn, am on 5500 on second but not checked in a while and suspect they are on the limit
Oh I am on 6200 approx so had better check I guess. I don’t want to be paying OYB prices for pads plus labour when I can do it.
Its a bastard to get the dual line calliper off tbh, make sure you cover the rim with a rag or something
My front pads did 16,300 miles, the same as the OE chain. Not sure you can judge your own wear by others' experiences as it depends a lot on riding styles. The only way is for you to check your pads and see how close the material is to the bottom of the indicator slots. I don't know what industry advice says but if down to 1 or 2 mm then time to replace them. I fitted sintered pads which may wear quicker, and may even wear the discs quicker, but they give a sharper response which I like.
About 16k then replaced everything although there was some life in them, still chain was knackered, well one loose link, the joining link, rest was ok, sense there was a fault there. changed sprockets then too
I'd avoid OEM pads as well Al, the Brembo red ones are very good and half the price. SA sintered they may be called ?? You have to twist your calipers to push the pads all the way back in to remove the caliper. Keep an eye on the reservoir level while doing this obviously.
If the pads are near the limit I will change them before it goes to OYB as I am not paying there prices for standard pads. Where can I purchase the red brembo pads from? I might as well get some and stick them in the garage until needed. I will change front and back at the same time.
Just tried searching online and front pads for a 16 S Touring come out at over £121 blimey I own the bike and don’t want to buy it again
As I recall, it was less than 70 quid for the front Brembos, maybe less than 60 ? But I remember Craig saying they were less then half of OEM
This is what I use - EBC HH sintered. £57 for two sets for the front. They work very well indeed. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ducati-1200-S-Multistrada-DVT-2015-EBC-FA447-HH-Front-Brake-Pads-New/401394855050?epid=2246064234&hash=item5d74ff6c8a:g:09MAAOSwaA5Wjlm0&_sacat=0&_nkw=ducati+multistrada+1200+DVT+brake+pads&_from=R40&rt=nc
Bendix MF get my vote - 341 is the pn for M4 calipers I believe . Great feel ..Although , unless you brake like Bradders , you’re good for another 10k on your current pads , looking at the responses above
A thought, would it be possible to crimp the banjo side caliper pipe and remove it before removing the actual caliper making life easy? I have some small stainless medical clamps used in operations which would be great for the job, then just bleed the caliper after? Good idea or rubbish.
Just impracticable. You cannot help but lose a very small amount of fluid which will create an air bubble that will track back up the brake line neccessitating bleeding the system. Creative thinking though Andy
I get it but don't really see a need Al, the issue is not with the hoses, it's with the caliper, but providing you twist the caliper against the disc to push the pads back, it's all good. It's a piece of cake and nowt to worry about. Getting the pads out and new back in is a bit fiddly also, but again, not too taxing.
