999 749 / 999 Modifications - What Did You Do ?

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by Dubs, Aug 12, 2015.

  1. @mileypau Thank you - race parts in OEM style was my goal, I love the looks of the factory race bikes but prefer a more subtle appearance since it's just a streetbike.

I ride quite little - just about 5500km in total now during three years with 10 months of riding season :D- and don't do track days so I can't really comment on any performance upgrades. I love the keyless go system, it's so easy to just hop on the bike, flick the killswitch, hit the starter and off we go. Oberon clutch slave is great for people like me who have the arms of a 12-year old Chinese girl. The Akrapovic is probably my favorite part of the bike, I love the sound and looks

  2. I understand now - you have a lot of garage time.
Thanks for that - yes I've got the Oberon clutch slave. I was getting sore wrist (no jokes).
The exhaust notes of a big V twin - can't be beaten.

I'm not as organised as you so will take me a while to work out what I've fitted.
I'll post at some point....but standing in your shadow.

999 semi-retired from track days (just doing 'road bike only' days) as our bikes are now going up in value.
Mines a 2005 999s and I've been offered £8k set back to standard.
I've bought a dedicated track bike for a quarter this value.

  3. Thats what ive done really, retired my 999 from Track days and bought a cheap Honda 600rr for track days, but ive been offered a rather lovely prilla for a track bike and I'm sorely tempted.

  4. Went to the Bike magazine day at Rockingham - the bike got a lot of attention from the staff writer; so might get a mention next month's edition.

    I've got a tidy little ZX636 20160703_154412.jpg 6a85ec3d-0d83-4647-b192-e7b7615e38e5.jpg

  5. This is my track toy, but looks like i'll be selling it soon, shame as its a cracking bike. I have the 999 is in track mode still, its on a daylight MOT , it just looks lovely in track trim.

  6. Nice set up - much fun with low impact on the wallet.
    You going Aprilia then?

I remain shocked when I see the cash chucked at some track bikes.
My only issue is I'm a bit big for this (I'm 6' 4") - but promised myself something bigger once I'm into the 1' 40s at Cadwell. Only 2 seconds off.....

  7. @mileypau Are those the DP levers? Any close-up photos?

  8. I have been given first dibs on an RSV4, and its a one owner bike which makes a big difference to me. Its always been one of my favourite bikes as I have owned 2.

  9. Is that 10 months per year or 10 months over 3 years??

  10. I pinched them off a 900ss that I did up for my son 20170829_161949.jpg 20170829_162007.jpg 20170829_162043.jpg ....not sure of their origin. I cannot see any marks on them to say DP. Pics show that the lhs has worked as intended; flipped up in a crash. I will polish it one day !

They are well engineered, so will keep on the 999.

Middle pic you can see I have junked the brake and clutch reservoirs as I have fitted adjustable bars - I saw the smoked plastic clear reservoirs on the new Ducatis and thought it looked good. Plus more weight saving haha
