Icon Goldy Coloured Chain

  1. 41CC905D-B95B-4B1E-AF84-7CA201E848E4.jpeg E2674F78-7067-4BF7-888E-86549ACDF288.jpeg Scrambler got a treat tonight, a new DID VX2 chain, the old one has done 7.5k miles and was showing signs of corrosion despite regular cleaning and lubing, Brooks Barn on EBay £52.00, I’ve not changed the sprockets as they still look good and if not changing them leads to premature chain wear I’m not bothered at £52, next time I’ll change it all as a set, I was surprised to find rust on the old chain on the pins when I split it, just shows what a cheap rubbish chain Ducati fitted!
    Note the chain brooks barn sent was 106 links, too long so I had to take 2 links out, 104 links is what you need.

  2. Totally agree Mark, Ducati fit crap chains. If you look at the demo bikes at dealers, they all have rust.
    I’ve got a multistrada, if it wasn’t regularly lubed it would be orange with oxidisation.
    Looks nice the gold linked chain and X ring chains are less friction than o ring and longer mileage/life time.

  5. Agreed, Ducati OE chains are awful, went through 2 in 20K miles, it always looked crap no matter how much cleaning I gave it

    Fitted an AFAM gold chain and sprocket set on the advice of this forum, not cheap but looking good after 7K miles, with barely an adjustment necessary

  6. I did the same at 1st annual service. The oem chain had only done 2k miles, but it looked awful!

  7. I find it quite frustrating that Ducati fit this poor a quality of chain to all it's bikes when you consider the cost of buying this "premium" product. I swapped my Multi one out at 7k miles cause it was rusted to buggery (regularly cleaned and lubed), and put in a ZVM-X. Disgraceful for OEM gear really.

  8. Yes, Ducati the premium brand with non premium parts, same goes for their fasteners etc etc, it’s all a cost thing of course, they must buy miles of chain so a few euros a metre adds up to a lot of money, shame we have to foot the bill to sort their bikes out!

  9. I couldn't agree more. The least Ducati could do is offer a premium upgrade (for a price) which includes a quality chain, useful mirrors, an adult tool kit and engine paint with anti flake agent! It could be the opposite of a "Dark" bike!

Scrambler brakes can be a bit marginal when an emergency braking situation presents itself, as it did earlier courtesy of a 4x4 & 2 horses (why the hell is riding a horse on the road legal!?) , I recon the Scrambler could’ve done with the Monster twin disc set up, anyway , Just had a horrible thought, what pads have the cheapskates fitted?.......EBC sintered HH pads now on order!, they worked wonders on my XJR1300.

EBC HH pads definitely improve the rear brake (haven’t ordered any for the front yet), looking at the original Brembo pads the sintering is minimal, the HH pads have many times more metal particles in them, you can feel them bite and they don’t fade as the originals did, great improvement for £15.
     
  14. Got the HH in the front of mine, definitely an improvement after a few "goodbye cruel world" moments on the OE pads.

  18. Fitted the HH front pads, real improvement to the front brake, definitely recommend them to other Scrambler owners, £32 well spent.

  19. With Ducati buying power I would guess that a £100/£200 (depending on model)..
    They could fit the best quality chains/ sprockets and nuts and bolts (in venerable areas) on the entire range
    No sweat..
    Seems a bit strange that they are happy to line up new bikes at dealerships that have only seen a bit of rain sporting rusty chains and fasteners.. bang another hundred quid on the bikes and stand them up looking like the price tag would suggest ya wankers:)..
