Vacuum Gauges

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by mary hinge horse burger, Jul 10, 2018.

  1. Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced set of gauges? A quick search reveals lots of shitty looking things that might not work for long.

  2. Davida used to make a decent set. Ive a bank of 4 which Ive had for 20yrs. Not used em for a while though. I assume you mean for carbs.

  3. Sorry to butt in - just on the back of Bootsam's post - how do you balance throttle bodies? (im asking as Ducati John is just about to start sticking my crankcases back together in a couple of hours time)....so ill be collecting the engine in a couple of weeks....be nice to know how to do it when i get to that bit...

  4. I followed the instructions, which I cannot recall at this time. I'll check the set out and see if theyre still in there. If so, I'll post pics of it.

All I remember was that it was a nuisance. Bit of a iterative process. My old GS750 was easy. That went by the book. Took me ages on my old 1100Katana, which I'd just rebuilt after a rattle appeared, which turned out to be the camchain follower blade ffs. But I spend moolah getting engine cleaned, crank balanced, bearings and everything checked etc etc. Cost me a mint, but £30 fucking cam chain blade. I threw that fucker as far as I could throw it. Not used em since and that was about 20yrs ago.

  6. Morgantune gauges are great.
They have adjacent vertical rods in a neat plastic case that make it really easy to see what's going on. Conventional gauges with needles on a clock face are much harder to 'read'

  7. Plus one, great bit of kit. Make sure you buy the 4cyl version so you can use it on other machines as well

  8. I have a pair of gauges but don't know the make. They came with several studs to fit in the throttle body. There is a blanking screw in the 916/748 range. I fitted the stud withe a length of pipe and blanking plug ala MV. The MV's are bolted to the frame and you just take the plug off and connect your gauges
When you start trying to balance them make sure the air bleeds are screwed in completely
I have never needed to try balancing anything later than a a 916 motor

  9. i did speak to ducati john earlier....he said there shouldnt be any need to....see what happens when it all goes back together...cheers..

  11. I have a set of the bar type you are welcome to borrow but no idea where you're located. I'm about 2 miles outside Gatwick Airport
