am sure you must have seen it but just in case https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ducati-1...738805?hash=item1a2ec3e135:g:ODQAAOSwwvZZTQ9t
Reiterating what Bradders said about oil being no indication. My crank split in two and there was zero indication in the oil. With the part numbers, it may well be as simple as a different supplier. For the cost of a new crank I’d pickup a used engine and have a lot of spares on hand.
Hmmm - yeah - the only used engine's are in the us at the moment - while they say 1500 delivered - im quite sure that Mr Taxman would get his percentage nocking that up quite considerably. The other thing is that, im keeping it long term so even if i were to buy a used engine its going to suffer from the same issues that literally every other ducati does - ie the fucking paint will fall off no matter what making the whole thing look like its been pulled from a duck pond. I accept that a rare few garage queens are immaculate but, i want it all. I want to be able to use the thing, maybe get caught in the rain but know that its not going to get exponentially scrappy over time... I mean....look at the state of that.... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ducati-1...738805?hash=item1a2ec3e135:g:ODQAAOSwwvZZTQ9t It'd cost me the same again to get the thing refreshed not to mention the whole thing blasted...id probably be paying the best part of say 3-500 just to get the crank out and get it recon'd (with 28k on it) I know mines seized but....hey at least its in really good condition bar the front barrell... If i could get that one in the uk for under a grand, maybe id consider it...maybe...
Check with a specialist firm, even severe damage could be repairable. I have had a few cranks metal sprayed on the big end journal if that is the problem.
Yeah - if i can that'll be good. The plan at the moment is to get the engine out on the weekend, then, take a friday off work, leave my place at 4 or 5am get up to Ducati John at 8am. Pull it apart, see whats what then plan from there. No matter what ill be bringing back as many engine parts as i can to get recoated, then get them back up to him (while sorting out the main problem). Again putting a positive spin on it, while the crankcases are split replace any bearings, and parts "that can wear" where posssible. Depending on the scale of the damage maybe, get some tuning done also...
2010 part number has been superceded 3 times up to the 2012 bike. also shared with the Monster EVO 2012/13. 14621691A was the first, then 14621931A and then 14621931AR being the latest number.
Does that mean that the newer part is the better one? id take it on the chin if i knew the newest crank was going to be the best...
Nope. different part number... may fit, but neither of the numbers listed against the 848 match the HYM ones. Could just be a change in manufacturer, could be an improvement. Hard to tell tbh.
ok....i must have searched for the wrong thing..heres where i found it... https://www.bike-parts-ducati.com/ducati-motorcycle/assignment_spare_parts/14621662AR Checked against the first part number - that tallied up with the price that riders gave me...
That's the crank for the 848 and 848 SF but it's not listed against the HYM. May fit, but it could be balanced to suit the 848 rods/pistons. The three part numbers listed above are the only 3 listed against the EVO. I've got £1240 against the latest Hyper EVO crank part number, not £1800...... I'd wait until you know what's gone first. It's all guess work until the motor is split. If I can help with parts, shout up.
Awesome - im banned from the garage at the moment by the wife otherwise id be out there tonight pulling it apart. Ive been allotted sunday to get the engine out by the foreman/wife....
From what you described it doesn't sound like a seizure, did the engine "tighten up" before stopping? Did it lock the rear wheel? Have you looked at other possible faults, electric failure etc. Being optimistic, could be something less drastic.
