Ireland Trip Advice, Arriving Rosslare

Discussion in 'Touring' started by Justatad, Jul 29, 2018.

  1. Hello all, my partner & I are planning a trip to Ireland on the Multistrada next weekend for 4 days, it would be Fishguard - Rosslare, we will be departing on the 11.45 pm ferry, arriving 4am, early start !!
I was hoping someone on here has done a similar trip & could offer advice on a touring route
    Cheers
    Steve.

  3. Haven't been from Rosslare but having family on the wife's side in Sligo we go from Dublin Port. I would head towards Kinsale, good restaurants, Middleton Nr Cork for a tour of Jameson's distillery. From there head towards the west coast to pick up the Wild Atlantic Way for as far as you have time for. Dingle is very pretty as is that area known as The Ring of Kerry, touristy though. We've just returned from Doolin in County Clare, a bit further up, great weather and a boat trip out to the Arran Islands.
Don't try to cover as much land as possible, enjoy the ride, and have a few pints of Guinness.

  4. Lovely picturesque environment, but i do find the Irish car drivers extremely bike unaware, so i say take alot more care than usual, N ireland is better in that regard, with fab roads too.

  5. Watch out for these guys. No matter what they try and make you believe, they don't have any gold and just like everyone else, spend their days drinking tea and looking at porn!

  6. Awesome place.
Just got back a few weeks ago in my camper van. 2 weeks, 2,000 miles around the Wild Atlantic Way. Rosslare around to Westport - then a cross country dash to Dublin for the ferry home.

Cliffs of Moher are a must.
Dingle peninsular is beside the Ring of Kerry and IMHO better.
The Sky road is fab and is over in Clifden Co Galway if you get that far.

    Have fun

  7. Agree with all this, go to Kinsale not Cork, which we found very disappointing.
Also, avoid the town of Killarney itself as the tourist trade has ruined it. Expensive but poor food and loads of tourist tat
We found the low value of the pound made Ireland expensive but it’s still lovely.
    Ooh and do visit Valentia

  8. been to the north, superb run, superb people, we just stuck to the coast and based ourselves in bushmills camp site. i really fancy going back and doing the south, a customer owns a camp site of the south coast, cant mind the name right now, he promises me the weather is a lot better than i have been lead to believe

  9. There’s a reason for it being called the Emarald Isle.
It only rained all day once during our stay though

  13. Get down to the Shannon Estuary and book a dolphin watch trip out of this place, dozens of them to see from the front of a fairly small trawler after an hours run out of the harbour !!

  15. Hit Galway, roundstone, cliften, Westport and head up to Donegal and around thru Belfast down to Dublin. Great people, great roads and good pubs.

  16. Lived there for a while. The west coast is the place to be, but it’ll be busy with tourist this time of year and loads of coaches everywhere. And dopey buggers wandering about in the road with cameras.
If you want a rip get out early, very early. Come back, have breccy then get into tour mode and just enjoy the place. Wicklow is nice, you’ve got Sally Gap there.
Go west though and head for Vaughans at Lahinch for epic fish and chips. Don’t be scared of turning off the tourist routes and exploring though :upyeah:

Have a look on www.biker.ie for a bit of info too, one or two of them might even come and take you out, can’t beat local knowledge over there :upyeah:
