Adding a coolant bottle to a 748S

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Ducati888, Feb 5, 2013.

  1. Hi all,
working on this years track bike a 748S I'd like to junk some of the cooling system, namely the two header tanks.
I'd replace them with a small bottle mounted just behind the current radiator similar to a friends race bike (a ZXR400) and so save a bit of weight and simplify things.
Question: Is there any issue I should be aware off dropping the normal coolant capacity of the 748S which having two headers implies that it requires more expansion than an 888?
    Thanks

  2. The tank behind the headstock is an integral part of the cooling system and is pressurised. The tank in the V of the motor is the overflow. You could replace that with a smaller one, but the one behind the headstock needs to stay if only as its also the only way to fill the system......there no cap on the rad.

  3. ST2 or ST4 rad will fit and they have a cap.

See you the weekend Stafford when i pick the bike up

  4. Thanks chaps, I have a spare ST4S rad in the garage so will see if that's a way forward as I think that has a cap.

I also have a genuine in it's bag HRC bottle to use Mr R, or it may go the 888. See you on the IoM.

Imola, good news, ex now able to access garage so should be able to collect SS to bring over to Calne for you to collect.
