Waterproof Gear

  1. Alright guys,

Just finished a great trip on the Tuono doing the NC500 over the past 4 days even though its pissed of rain for most of the trip, it was still amazing.

I’m looking for some advice on textiles, waterproofs and waterproof gloves now for next time. I’ve got some waterproofs that I burst on the last day and need replacing and used a pair of Buffalo waterproof gloves that performed pretty well but I’d like a spare pair of gloves for when one pair get wet.

Any recommmendations from you guys on what you use would be great.

  2. The cheapest method has to be a thin all in one over your normal gear. Good ones are about 60 quid

  3. Try something that uses the Outdry waterproofing sytem rather than Gortex liners. Outdry is an outer laminate rather than an inner liner so the whole glove remains completely dry.
Knox, Held and Alpinestar all do Outdry touring gloves. Held or Knox would be my choice, probably in that order. I have a pair of Alpinestar Equinox but because I'm an XXXL I can't get them in Outdry, they only do Gortex in that size. They're good gloves but I can feel the seams inside the fingers. All Held gloves have external stitching so they tend to be more comfortable.

  5. I had the RST one piece and Hattie has the Rev-It. Hers is a better bit of kit with wide legs and generous zips. The RST is a faff to get into and not great quality really. I’ve a tear at the bottom of one leg after second use. She’s used her loads and it’s holding up. Probably a tenner or so in it. RST was £50 and Rev-It about €80 so there or thereabouts.

  6. I have a quite old Hein Gericke jobby one piece type. Of all the fancy pants brands of Gore-Tex this and special coated bla de bla's that I have ever tried, nothing has kept me as dry as the all in one, which rolls up and goes under a seat or in a small tank bag. It was 60 or so quid, and only very occasionally do you get a trickle down the neck if it's really pissing it down, which I think you do with most gear. Even the trickle can be avoided if you get one with a higher collar that you can shove up inside your lid.

  7. I’ve got a Buffalo one piece that’s lined/quilted. Think I’ve had it about 12 years and used it maybe 10-12 times. Still in good nick :upyeah:

  8. Look like I’m sorted for waterproofs now. Just need to settle on some gloves...

  9. I have a pair of the Held Air ‘n’ Dry. I picked them up last year and I’ve used them through the winter and all this year.
