I was getting my stuff together as I was due to fly to the US the next day on business, it was 3 weeks later beforeI finally got to make the journey
I was driving to a new customer in Dublin, listeningnto the radio and like everyone else i thought the first plane was a Cessna type. Then the radio presenters went crazy with hit number 2. When i arrived at this new customer i said ' hello...have you got a tv and can we have a look as something very odd is happening " we then spent the next 2 hours staring at the tv.
I'm not disagreeing with you that Islam is stupid. Do you consider other major religions stupid as well though?
Not gonna lie I had to Google that shit. Aren't they all inimical to other groups in practice? That seems to be what reality has shown us. I don't understand why we have 2 categories; 1 being stupid shit that if you claim to believe people can fairly day your crazy, and stupid shit that cause it's old and organised we have to 'respect.

You aren't wrong. Major religions, being mainly concerned with control of the masses rather than anything else, are all about the idea of "them & us". For instance, during the Catholic church's early expansionist period, they used several recruiting methodologies involving both carrot and stick. These days they are more into peddling lies and influence in underhanded ways, rather than burning random folk at the stake for S&Gs and notoriety. It's still wrong, it's still evil, but in the main, it isn't murderous. I'll have to settle for that, for now. Major religions go on from bloodthirstiness over time until they are just ticking over, controlling the weak-minded with blandishments and generally shunning violence. It's a progression that mirrors the early history of pretty much every civilised nation. The problem is that big chunks of one particular major religion are still aggressively expansionist - it hasn't yet grown out of its violent infancy. This religion, in its uppermost organisational form, is both stupid and dangerous. I think people are daft for believing in invisible space friends but that's an opinion, it isn't policy. If folks find peace, happiness, whatever through faith, I do not propose any action to contradict that. I just think it is daft. I do object to religions with aggressive hegemonising agendas. Very strenuously.
People will argue that it's people using the religion for their own benefit and they'd be using any means available to get power etc... I don't know what the solution is apart from education and helping people realise that it's ok to think about things and change their mind from what they were forced into as kids.
If a thing lends itself towards misuse as often as organised religion has done, it's time to stop trying to separate the thing from the misuse, as they are effectively synonymous.
Western civilisation as a concept is interesting. I don't think Islam is the biggest threat to how things are now. Things always change Anyway.
You're just a bit pathetic, Martin. It's sad for you and I hope you come through it some day. A motorbike forum shouldn't be a haven for prejudice. (on the positive side, I just discovered the "ignore" button )
On 9/11 I was at the office of the Immigration Appeal Tribunal (which in those days was in Rosebery Avenue EC1) discussing the proposed expanded jurisdiction of the Special Immigration Appeals Commission. Once we found out how serious the attack was, it soon became obvious that SIAC was going to have more, and more difficult, terrorism cases than anticipated. A higher priority, more urgency, and more resources would be needed. So the job of managing SIAC was added to my workload. Great. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special_Immigration_Appeals_Commission
Just seen this....i was at work, wife phoned me to tell me, i was working for a very large technology company at the time....we had a back bone connection to the web and that jammed up...! It was surreal to be honest....still is to this day, for me...ironically i read last night the subway underneath has just reopened...
I was in meetings at Honda UK HQ near Heathrow. They were clients and I didn't find out until I left the building late afternoon and turned on the car radio. It affected my youngest son the most as he had visited the towers on a school trip previously.
We were sat in a cafe in Rotterdam on our return from Assen WSBK, the waiter told us to come and watch the TV and we saw it unfold, shocking it seemed the whole world was a target that day, when we got on the ferry it was held in port for 3 hours or so with no information as to why some assumed the 11 story behemoth was a target however it was just due to bad weather.
