1200 R 1200r Vs 1200s

  1. The dealer I was at the other day said it can’t be retrofitted as the ecu is different to the S model so they use healtech ones instead
     
  2. Havent tried the R, but had an S for a week when i was waiting for my multi to come in. Best fun ive had with my clothes on in a long time! Id a 2 hour ride to work one morning that included through the mourne mountains, possibly my best motorcycle ride ever! If i didnt need to tour and have a pillion, id have one, no question! If i could ever afford a second bike, itd be a 1200 S
     
  3. It is a better seat imo. It looks nice and is nicely finished. Can take a piccie or 2 of it if you wish...?

  5. So sorry for delayed response....another senior moment I’m afraid !! Few photos to try and show you the difference in the 2 seats as requested. There’s not a lot of noticeable difference....just a bit more padding in the comfort seat, but for me the more padding the better ! The comfort seat is the one with the red seat cowl fitted....

I went for the "s" as I couldn't see anything extra on the "r" that was worth the extra money and the "s" had everything I was looking for (Ohlins, Quickshifter, electrics pack and adjustable seat for my little legs). Put a set of Termi endcans on with race map and usual tail tidy, crash bungs and radiator guards, also bar end mirrors and the bikes awesome. Someone on a previous post mentioned the "s" was a licence saver compared to the "r". I have had loads of bikes including the full gsxr range and fireblades etc and the Monster is right up there with them. It pulls like a train and with the quickshifter you're in licence loseing territory in seconds.

  8. Im still looking at monsters and have narrowed the search down to a few S and R models

    Can get a new grey S for 14250 one on the road + £500 parts voucher

    Also seen a few nearly new some with termi exhaust and there’s a couple of cheap R knocking around for sub £11k but no warranty and circa 2k miles

    I like the look and exclusiveness of the R but the lack of a quickshifter puts me off

    The S doesn’t have a steering damper so that’s £500 extra outlay so suppose it’s swings and roundabouts with each model
     
  9. You shouldn't need a steering damper if the suspension is set up properly. I have had my S for over a year now and have had not one tank slapper in 4000 miles.

  10. The R is set up for Racing and if you spent a little time on a track with your bike you will understand the need for one ...

  12. The OP didn't say he was looking for a new racebike or trackbike. If he was he wouldn't just be looking for a steering damper. Race/track bikes bear no resemblance to road bikes when it comes to suspension and frame/running gear setup. He was looking for advice ref a roadbike he was going to buy from a dealer. I have had lots of bikes in 45 years of biking and if mine needed a damper trust me I would not hesitate to fit one. I just think too many people spend upwards of £600 on a steering damper when a simple £50 set up would have the same effect.

  14. I was trying to say that the R model was actually designed for Racing and that was the need for the steering damper ... And those of us who race know why it is their...

  16. Yes , also 160 hp. Increased riding height to allow 50° lean angle

  18. Your right especially without an auto blipper ... But what is unusual there are not ducati proformace part for one ... And very little aftermarket one ...
     
  19. Can’t fit the plug and play heated grips to the R either apparently which is something I was going to do to mine.
     
  20. To be honest the quickshifter on mine is great up the box but a bit agricultural down. It's getting better now theres 4000 miles on it. Off to Spain Tuesday for 10 days and 2500 miles so maybe it will bed in a little more then.
