  1. been told the friction plates on my clutch are worn and clutch needs replacing what do think the best way to go about it and the cheapest i will have to take it to gtec or vduo ,do i let them replace parts on old clutch or i have seen slipper clutchs on ebay for 250ish and get them to fit all new clutch or could it be something easy to replace and repair and what do you think the cost will be.

    thanks

  2. A very easy job to do yourself. Just buy the new friction plates and replace the old ones. No messing with dropping oil, its a dry clutch.

Off with the side fairnig, remove the clutch cover, undo the six plate retaining bolts, remove plate, remove stack, iremove old plates and insert new plates in stack (keeping order the same) and reverse steps to put back together. :upyeah:

  3. +1 its a simple job, full packs of friction and steel plates start around 140 quid upwards for decent brands, or just get new friction plates for around 80 quid and reuse the steel ones.

  4. It's all been said above, replace plates yourself, one of the easiest jobs to do on the bike and don't pull the clutch lever while the plates are out.

  5. and don't go leaning too hard on the 6 spring retainer screws when you do them up - it's quite common for people to overtighten these and strip the thread in the aluminium spring posts.

  6. I'd stay away from the cheap slippers on fleabay tbh. Seen a couple fail. If you want a slipper, invest in a decent one. If your plates and/or basket are worn, then you'll still need to replace them anyhow......
if the bikes a keeper, look into the 48 tooth options that are around. Longevity is very good compared to the conventional clutches.

  7. just put a new clutch on my 996 this week, used the suzuki plates £38 , also fitted a new clutch basket, corse aluminium type £75 , also fitted an aftermarket slave cylinder at £70 , took for a spin today, clutch is so much smoother and lighter on the lever, real easy to do too, kev

  8. Where did you get the basket from for £75? I need a new basket and plates for my 999

    Cheers

  11. I personally use ASV shorty clutch and brake levers - They look slick and the fold out of the way / snap back mechanism is pretty sweet! I bought mine from www.clutchlever.co.uk
