  9. Building materials!
We went metric in 1965. It became illegal to use imperial units when selling stuff in 1995, so why the f@@k are building materials still talked about in feet & inches?
    When it arrived today my supposed 4”x2”x16’ timber is actually 10cmx40cm x 481cm (3.937” x 1.575” x 15.78’) and my supposed 1200mm x 2400mm sheets of ply are actually 1220 x 2440 (4’ x 8’)!!
I had everything worked out to the mm now I’ve got to rework it all and cut things I didn’t want to have to cut. FFS!!:(

    Does your head in
    Doesn’t it ....
What measurements have you got to
    Change then?

  12. There was a time when plaster board was metric in width and imperial in height, the powers that be must have thought builders heads would explode if they changed too soon. Truly terrible!

  13. In the states they still say things like 5 8ths, wtf is a 5 8th?

  14. 5-8ths is a kilometre, noobie. 5-8ths of a mile is a kilometre. So when asking for 5-8ths, they want a piece of wood a kilometre wide.

Shouldn't have to explain this stuff.

    Yeah, feral people. Ugh.
