55mm Wheel Nut Socket

  1. Anyone used a laser tools or bikeservice tools Ducati wheel nut socket?

They’re about £35 compared to some of the other £70 ones (bloody mental for a socket!)

Anyone know if they work without chewing up the nut?

Need one for the monster especially now as I’ve got to take the bloody wheel off to fit a carbon chain guard!

    Thanks

  2. Get a steel one as you will most likely need to put a rattlegun on it. Aluminium will just absorb all the power. DAMHIK

  3. A steel one is a must (the Lazer is steel). A rattle gun will just chew up the 1/2" drive of an alloy socket.

  4. @Advikaz has a good one for sale this morning.

  5. Got to say that I'm a little disappointed in the CTMOTO stainless 55mm socket I bought. The fit is a little slack, feel that use of my Clarke rattle-gun would probably do some damage to the nut.

The two sockets I bought for use on the MV where a decent snug fit though that was, in part, down to the nut also being tapered.

  6. Impact sockets are usually a loose fit so they can move back and forward to hammer the nut

I’ll give that laser one a try

    Thanks

  7. I don't think that they should be. Any movement on the nut could damage it. The hammering should happen inside the impact driver.

  8. I bought a Draper 55mm 3/4 drive from Amazon for £15. I’ve always been pleased with Draper stuff. Well worth a search on there.
