What Car? Diesel, Petrol, Hybrid, Leccy?

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by West Cork Paul, Dec 8, 2018.

  1. Best compromise imho would be diesel hybrid

  2. Peugeot did one, not sure if it's still available?

  3. Manufacturers seem to do adblue/diesel mostly.

  4. Peugeot has confirmed it no longer plans to offer a diesel hybrid engine, concentrating on plug-in hybrids and petrol-electric hybrids in the future
Oh well, diesel hybrids gone - must have been a fuel tax killer :upyeah:

  5. Well I had to send in my PCH mileage update to Skoda a few weeks ago.

They came back to me and said as my mileage was now looking like it would be less than contract they recommend I have a requote on the remaining term to save money.

Well the requote finally arrived yesterday evening
    upload_2018-12-11_15-29-27.png

So I reduce the contract mileage from 60,000 to 40,000 - so just 2/3 the contract mileage and maintenance... BUT they increase cost £50 a month..... BARGAIN..... so I wont be taking up the offer..

So my guess is they are expecting the residual to be substancially less than when they calculated the original cost.. and they are hoping I am a MUG...

    This is a 2.0 Diesel 4 x 4.

  7. Surprisingly, when we did our first PCP here in Ireland, not long after moving here, it was on a Golf; after the deposit monthly payments over 3 years were c.€350 and the balloon was 12500, at the end of the deal the VW dealer took back the Golf and gave us a brand new Tiguan 2.0D Sport on a new 3 year deal at the same monthly rate. It was a no-brainer, new car, 3 years warranty, compared with keeping the golf and either coughing up 12.5K cash or re-financing it with VW bank at, get this, more per month than we had been paying in order to clear the balloon over 3 years.

However, I can't see that happening this time around. I genuinely believe the manufacturers finance arms are going to be taking a bath on all those diesel PCPs out there.

  8. I do believe this will become a recurring issue and as I stated above manufacturers' finance companies will be hit. As will consumers as they try to pass the pain on in the way of charging for bumps/scrapes etc in addition to excess mileage to recoup the losses they'll be taking.

  9. 100% agree with you there! My sister inlaw is financed up to the eyeballs on a shitty Nissan suv thing and they hammered her on scrapes and what not on her new deal.
Trouble with the world today is people
Like her have entitlement issues and believe they deserve a brand new car even if they can’t afford it.
    She’s an idiot!

  10. It depends. To get you in to a car, they may be willing to discount the new one (if the new one is in stock especially). But there's no deposits, its just a discount, but equates to the same result for the consumer.

Its why I have taken an 8k pa contract when I do just over 20k pa: I'll back being able to get a new car in 2yrs with sufficient a deal to clear off any balance including mileage adjustment. But am realistic it may not be the 100% car I was after!

  11. The other thing to consider is many are moving away from cars and into the mpv/4wd look vehicles which is where the market seems to be growing and cars not so much. In 3 years I feel that will still be the case.

I'd like to think it's because we are all doing better and see these type of vehicles as a badge of doing well. Sadly though many seem to be picking cars not based on speed, economy, 0-60mph or the environment but more on , oooh me back, this is easy to get into, the drivers seat helps me ease my arthritic hip in :D

  13. It’s the suv craze
Unfortunately all the pensioners and women that have got out of their zafiras and in to bigger cars can’t drive or park them hence the reason there’s a 3 month wait at main dealer body shops lol

  15. As does my new coupe ;)

  16. Most annoying thing about this suv craze is that their mirrors are at the perfect height to get twatted by the bike when filtering. It’s made the London A2 run a nightmare.

  17. Ha ha ha ha got to be worth the monthly payment just for that.
Watching my wife park the macan when she had it was the most painful thing I’ve ever seen.
    I couldn’t watch

  18. I think this is the only way to go.. Very little emissions, good for maintaining the road surface, very economical and good exercise for the owner too.. What’s not to like?

If you want one it’s called a
    “ Do” and it’s made by a company called ... “ Yabba Dabba “

  19. Just to bring this thread to a conclusion (for now), and as I hate it when people start threads, ask questions, get advice and then don't finish off the thread to let those who contributed know what the outcome was, we decided to keep the 3yr old Tiguan and pay off the balloon payment on the PCP.

With technology, and Govt rules, changing so fast this leaves us open to take the best option in the future without being tied into a finance plan or a manufacturer.

ps. I'd still like a Tesla:)
