Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by bettes, Dec 13, 2018.

  1. oh i would contact
    speedcarbon.com (the loverly elisa)
    for the carbon airbox..

  2. Cheers pal. Already got the carbon sorted. It’s an M40 but no idea about the pitch without measuring.
Just started gutting a std breather right down to the reeds.

  3. i think you have cut that too deep..unless its the angle of photo..

  4. Why’s that, Andy? Didn’t know how far to go down as there was a block of plastic pushing down on the reeds. I used a dremel to slit it and the heat must have broken the bond between the main body and the funnel bit. Going to make a stopper plate for the reeds and screw it down so it traps them in place. Can you see any problems doing it that way?

    Cheers, Ian

  5. i think its the angle of the picture..

  8. I have an underseat breather box on my 916 with the large corse outlet on the casings and corse reed/breather in the airbox, however the corse breathers are no longer available. I wanted another and so made one from an old style crankcase breather - the alloy type as they are easy to open/cut/flip and reseal and are almost identical to the Corse model.

    And for another bike, an inline version;

These are also NLA new but more likely to be found used.

  9. Went a different route and chopped up the DP breather I had for sale.

Means I won’t have to dick about making and fitting the stopper plate.

  10. Does the STM angled crankcase breather use a rubber O ring like the Std one or an alloy washer?
Looks like I have to fab a tool up to tighten the body down. No biggy!

Couldn’t wait to dump the bastard ugly black oil catch / breather box!

  14. That looks lovely. Would you fancy making another?

  15. Making another what, Joe? I bought the carbon breather box from Italy.

  16. Couldn’t get enough distance between the thicker 1” tube and the top rocker bolt so cut the silicone tube and used a length of alloy tube to get clearance.

  17. And to finish it off...
Using the silicone hose under the seat to the breather box will rub on the the seat cowl when down.
As it happens, I was having a new boiler fitted in the cellar and the gas engineer had a spare piece of 3/4” flexi gas pipe kicking about so I used that. Still got enough left over for another 2 so if anybody needs some, let me know.

  20. No Andy. It was nearly closed that way before but just mocking up. I went a different route in the end. I used a length of alloy tubing in the end off the crankcase breather tube to help keep the tube open while protecting it from the rocker pivot bolt.
