Fitting Steel Fuel Line Connectors 748/998

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by bettes, Dec 31, 2018.

  1. Just about to get stuck into this next job...
    Anyone who’s changed them;
Do the fuel hoses need hose clamps?
Heat the fuel lines up in hot water to release/refit the new connectors from the inner plastic fuel line?
And, 3 Bond, PTFE tape or locktite thread sealer for the females?

Thanks and happy new year to all.
    Cheers, Ian

  2. Ian, fuel connector is shown with Loctite 577 as a thread sealer and all pipe connections internal to the tank and external have hose clamps on a standard installation.

  3. Cheers Andy!

  4. Oettinger clamps single ear ones....;)

  5. How come the 998 has the inner plastic tube inside the fuel line and (older?) versions don’t?

  6. Wonder in Halfords sell them?

  7. nah i doubt it..... ebay or more of a specialist motor factor.
i would use a section of new fuel hose (make sure you get the proper stuff that works at the fuel pressure) ...

  8. Andy, mine don’t have external hose clamps. Maybe they did when the bike left Italy... but maybe because the 998 has that internal plastic line inside the fuel hose?

Need to do some more digging...

    Ian

  9. Cheers lads!

  10. Ian, you're right, the 998 parts book only has clamps shown for the internals. It shows the external pipework as a single part number with no clamps at either end of the tubes. However those are factory assembled, I would use hose clips for piece of mind.

  11. post 7........ just get some proper pressure regulated fuel rubber hose say 13mm external along with oettinger clamps and renew what you want to do back to the t piece.

  12. Sound. That’s what i’ll do, thanks.

  13. @andyb or anyone, does this look ok?

    Thanks

  14. bit ott........the fuel systems dent run that high so it doesn't need to be that reinforced...even the corse systems are only 4-5 bar..

  15. Thanks. Over rated but cheap as chips. £13 for 2 metres so i’ll order that. Just realised I’ll need to get some new connectors for the fuel pressure sensor too. They’re only about 6mm diameter! And the q/r connectors are 9 mm.

  16. eh.....?

  17. I’ll get a photo up in a sec...

  18. You're only changing these bits are you? and then renewing the rubber hose to the steel t piece fitting it with the oettinger clamps?

  19. I wish mate but as normal for me, things get complicated quickly! Forgot about this and the hose tails being different.

The q/r tails are 10mm, the pressure sensor’s tails are about 6 or 8 mm the same as the airbox pipe union.

  20. So I need to either buy 2 new tails for the pressure sensor and a 2 reducers or just buy 3 reducers and 2 different diameter fuel hoses.
