  1. Had a car in front of us a few months ago. Pissing down with rain and the car in front of us was crawling along a jabbing the brakes at every car coming towards us in the opposite lane.

Got to a small village and as usual, loads of cars parked on the left lane. Nothing coming so the two of us drove down the road and when an oncoming car came into view, the car in front tucked in and I tucked in behind them. Then the reverse lights came on...

I pressed the horn (nowhere I could go because we now had a stream of cars coming towards us in their lane). They stopped. They then started reversing again so I used the horn again. They stopped again but the third time, they kept coming and hit us.

I got out of the car, walked up to the window to see a little old lady, quite clearly trying to avoid eye contact and looking in the opposite direction. She then drove off.

I jusmped back in the car and shot after her. She chucked it down a side road (no more slow driving) and parked up behind tthe village church. I got out, walked up and heard her press the door lock button. After repeated knocking she cracked her window and played the sweet littleold lady voice and denied knowing she'd hit me. She told me it was dark and she couldn't see anthing. I told her she shouldn't be reversing on hope alone.

She shouldn't be driving... next time it's a kid she reverses into.

  2. It amazes me how many older people can’t remeber where their car is on the garage forecourt and it’s not that big :scream:

  3. The Guardian web site has a good breakdown of accidents by age group - 17 to 24 year olds have four times the rate of the over 70's. And the old 'uns do more miles.

  5. Wonder if he gets offered the driver improvement scheme as an alternative to prosecution although that offer is dependent on the offender admitting responsibility.........

  6. Statistically too small a population.

  7. Has an offence been committed?

  8. Pretty sure that failing to give way at a junction is careless driving.

  9. And I suspect it happens multiple times a day cross the UK.
Pretty sure( no facts, but reasonable supposition) not every single one is charged and proceeded with.

  10. Nope, he's talking percentages :eyes:

  11. Maybe for non injury collisions but one of the occupants of the other vehicle has a broken arm so the collision will be classed as serious and require a full investigation.

  12. This was the first car crash he's been associated with since 1997.

    (Paris, allegedly...)

  14. I’d call BS on that stat. Not many 75 yr olds have to drive to work, often 50 plus miles away, at least 5 days a week. So why would the average travelled Miles be more in the older generation...plus they don’t age many accidents. But if they looked they’d see plenty they caused in the rear view mirror ;)

  15. the 17-24 thing has been around for years...

every accident that is recorded 750 751 does more than you realise about stats gathering...even down to special topics like were bull horns fitted to either vehicle i shit you not!

  16. My father was in jaca spain flying his glider, he was the chief flying instructor for gliding in n ireland and held his private pilots licence, but he couldnt hire a car as he was over 70. He ran his own business but when we bought a new vw transporter the two week courtesy insurance refused to cover him as again he was over 70.

  17. I doubt the Duke pays for insurance

Oh and i was driving a big red fire engine with flashing headlights ,blue lights and rather loud wailers reverberating of the buildings.
